JellyFish Lighting Installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor

Keywest Lights & Electric is an Authorized Dealer of JellyFish Lighting. We are an independent, licensed electrical contractor based in Seminole (Florida license EC13014717), not JellyFish Lighting, the company. We sell, install and support JellyFish Lighting systems across Pinellas County and the wider Tampa Bay area, and we handle the electrical side ourselves.

JellyFish Lighting is part of our permanent lighting services, and it’s the featured system we install and recommend first.

Permanent lighting belongs on any building, for any reason, every night of the year. On a home, JellyFish Lighting gives you security lighting along the eaves, soft accent light that shows off the architecture, and a welcoming look from the street. On a business, it outlines the roofline in steady brand colors and makes the building easy to spot from the road. Holidays and special events are one more use: the same lights switch to seasonal colors when you want them to, then go right back to work.

What JellyFish Lighting is

JellyFish Lighting is a smart eave lighting system. Small LED lights, each about 3/4 inch by 1 1/4 inch, sit flush in a slim track that mounts under the eaves and behind the trim. The track is color-matched to your soffit during the first measurement visit and encloses all of the wiring. Where the house allows, the runs between roof sections jump through the attic instead of across an outside wall.

  • Color: full-spectrum RGB lights with three diodes each and a frosted lens, able to produce over 16 million colors.
  • Whites: warm white presets at 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K, or a custom temperature to match your existing fixtures.
  • Spacing: a light every 6, 9 or 16 inches. Nine inches is the most popular and looks most like traditional holiday strings.
  • Patterns: every light is individually addressable, with over 100 preset patterns plus your own custom designs.
  • Smart home: works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Control4 and Nice-Elan, and the cloud-based app works from anywhere.
  • Build: silicone-filled casings rated IP67, UV-resistant acrylic lenses, and UL Certified and ETL Listed lights and controller.

Residential: security, curb appeal and everyday light

For most homeowners, the lights earn their keep on ordinary nights. A brighter, cooler white along the eaves lights the walls, entries, driveway edge, walkways and steps, so the whole perimeter is lit instead of one porch fixture. Paired with Alexa, Google Home or Control4, the lights can come on when a camera detects motion. On other nights a warm white preset softly washes the stucco, block and trim, giving the house a finished, upscale look from the street without anyone touching a switch.

Because each light is controlled on its own, you can light only the peaks or every other bulb, and run the back patio differently from the front.

Commercial: brand colors, visibility and schedules

JellyFish Lighting is just as useful on commercial and shared buildings. We install it on:

  • Storefronts, shopping centers and restaurants
  • Offices and professional buildings
  • Car dealerships and showrooms
  • Churches and other places of worship
  • HOA entrances, clubhouses and amenity buildings
  • Condominiums, apartments and other multi-family buildings

A business can outline its building in steady brand colors and set schedules around business hours, so the building is lit when traffic is passing and dark when it should be. Many local sign codes in Tampa Bay treat color-changing, flashing or alternating lights on a business as an animated sign, so we keep commercial facades on steady colors and check the sign code for your address before we set anything up. Animated patterns stay a home feature. If the property also needs panel work, new circuits or maintenance, see our commercial electrician page.

Set the whole year once

Build your scenes in the app, place them on the calendar for the dates you want, and set an everyday look for the nights in between. Schedules can follow sunset to sunrise or fixed times, and zones let one part of the building run differently from another. After that, the lights change themselves all year.

Control it from your phone

Everything runs from the JellyFish Lighting app. Pick a pattern by category, adjust colors, speed and effects, and set schedules that turn the lights on at sunset and off at a time you choose. These are screenshots of the app our customers use.

How the lights can face

On most homes the lights face straight down from the soffit, so light falls onto the wall below the eave instead of shining at the neighbors. JellyFish Lighting makes standard and canted tracks for flat and angled soffits, wider and Z-flashing tracks for narrow soffits, beams and wall caps, a 45-degree track where there is no soffit, and a radius track for curves. We pick the right one for each run at the estimate.

Holidays and events: the seasonal bonus

When the season comes, the same lights become permanent Christmas lights, then switch to pink and red for Valentine’s Day, green for St. Patrick’s Day, red, white and blue for the Fourth of July, orange and purple for Halloween, or a favorite color for a birthday. Compared with hanging strings:

  • No ladder climbs in December and no trip back up in January.
  • No gutter clips, tangled strands or bins of lights to store.
  • No extension cords across the yard or wires dangling between roof sections.
  • No daytime eyesore: the color-matched track sits behind the trim.

If you want lights up for this holiday season, book your free estimate early. The install calendar fills up as December gets closer, and booking ahead is the easiest way to lock in a fall install date.

Store-bought kits vs. a professionally installed system

Roofline light kits are sold in big-box stores and online. Many mount with adhesive tape and clips, and the wiring between lights is often left exposed along the fascia. Florida sun, humidity, salt air and summer storms are hard on tape and loose wire. A professional install is a different job: the track is fastened to the building, the wiring is enclosed, the controller sits indoors on proper power, and a dedicated outlet or circuit is added where needed, all by a licensed electrician who stands behind the work.

Why a licensed electrician should install it

The lights run on 48-volt DC low voltage, but they start at a controller that plugs into a standard 110-volt outlet. The controller and any added power supplies go indoors, usually on a garage wall. One controller handles roughly 250 to 300 feet of lights depending on the wiring, and more power supplies can be added for bigger homes. JellyFish Lighting lists the draw at about 1.1 amps per 100 feet.

  • Garage receptacles need GFCI protection under the electrical code, so we confirm it is there and working.
  • If the garage circuit already carries a freezer, a workshop or an opener, we can add a new receptacle or a dedicated circuit for the lighting.
  • If there is no outlet where the controller should go, we install one rather than leaving you with an extension cord.
  • Permanent lighting that needs a new outlet or dedicated circuit requires an electrical permit. We pull that permit and handle the inspection for you.

More on the power side is on our outlets, GFCI and dedicated circuits page.

How a JellyFish Lighting install works with us

  1. Free estimate visit. We measure each roofline run, note the soffit style, match the track color to your trim and pick a controller location with good power.
  2. Written proposal. Footage, track, spacing and any electrical work, in writing.
  3. Power first. Any GFCI receptacle, new outlet or dedicated circuit the home needs is part of the job.
  4. Track and lights. The track goes up under the eaves, the lights sit flush in it, and the wiring stays inside the track or in the attic.
  5. App setup. Before we leave, we connect the controller to your Wi-Fi, set up zones and schedules, and show you how to build and schedule your first scenes.

HOAs, condos and architectural review

Many Pinellas communities have a review board that approves exterior changes, so check your HOA or condo rules before you schedule. JellyFish Lighting publishes a printable fact sheet for HOAs, and we can give you the track color, mounting location and a simple layout of the runs for your application. Because the track matches the soffit and the lights sit flush, the system is designed to blend in when it is off. Near the beach, we set up turtle-friendly schedules so the lights stay off from May 1 through October 31, the sea turtle nesting season per FWC.

Warranty: product and workmanship

JellyFish Lighting FAQ

Is Keywest Lights & Electric part of JellyFish Lighting? No. We are an independent electrical contractor and an Authorized Dealer of JellyFish Lighting. We sell and install their system and honor their warranty, while running our own business, crew and estimates.

I saw JellyFish lights in an ad. Can you install them here? Yes. Keywest Lights & Electric installs JellyFish Lighting on homes and businesses across Pinellas County and Tampa Bay as a licensed electrician based in Seminole. Call (727) 476-7079 or use our online form for a free estimate, and we’ll measure your roofline and check the power where the controller will go.

How much does JellyFish lighting cost? It depends on the building, so every quote is written for your home or business. The main factors are how many feet of roofline get lights, whether it’s one story or two, where the controller goes and how close that spot is to power, and whether a new outlet or dedicated circuit is needed. We measure and check all of that at a free estimate, then give you a written proposal. Call (727) 476-7079 or request a free estimate online.

Is JellyFish Lighting just for Christmas? No. It is permanent lighting for homes and businesses all year: security and accent white on most nights, steady brand colors for businesses, and holiday or event colors only on the dates you choose.

Can a business use JellyFish Lighting in its brand colors? Yes. You can set steady brand colors as the everyday look and schedule them around business hours. Many local sign codes treat color-changing or flashing business lighting as an animated sign, so we check the code for your address first.

Can I schedule the whole year at once? Yes. You save scenes in the app, place them on the calendar, and set an everyday look for the nights in between. The lights follow sunset-to-sunrise or fixed-time schedules and change on their own.

Can JellyFish Lighting be my permanent Christmas lights? Yes. The same lights run red and green or any holiday scheme you like in December, with nothing to hang or take down. Book your estimate early in the fall to get an install date before the holidays.

Will I need a new outlet or circuit? Sometimes. The controller plugs into a standard 110-volt outlet, usually in the garage, and that outlet needs GFCI protection. If the existing one is missing, in the wrong spot or on a busy circuit, we add a receptacle or a dedicated circuit during the install. A new outlet or dedicated circuit requires an electrical permit, which we pull, and we handle the inspection too.

What warranty comes with a JellyFish Lighting install? JellyFish Lighting’s 5-year parts warranty on the roofline lights, controllers and power supplies, plus our own separate workmanship warranty on the installation: 2 years, or a full 5 years for Member Care Plan members.
