December 12, 2026: Gulfport’s big holiday Saturday
Gulfport packs its holiday celebrations into one day. The city’s Community Holiday Parade is at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2026, with the community tree at the Clymer Park pavilion. That evening at 6, the Boca Ciega Yacht Club’s 40th Lighted Christmas Boat Parade leaves the municipal marina and passes Clam Bayou, Osgood Point, Williams Pier and the Gulfport Casino. Homes facing the bay along that route are seen from the water as well as the street.
1950s cottages: what we check before any track goes up
Gulfport is one of the oldest housing stocks in Pinellas. The median home was built around 1963, and about four of every five homes predate 1980. The 1950s was the biggest building decade. About 60% of homes are detached houses, and owner-occupancy is high. On a cottage that age, the install starts with the wood:
- Fascia and soffit: soft or patched boards get fixed before anything is fastened to them
- Low, short eaves: many cottages need a single front run plus the porch gable, which keeps the job small
- Controller power: older garages and utility rooms often lack a GFCI-protected outlet, so we add one; if the panel is full, see rewiring and Gulfport panel upgrades
If we add an outlet or circuit, we pull the permit and handle the inspection.
Everyday warm white, game-night color
Gulfport owners often care more about how the house looks on an ordinary Tuesday than about one big holiday weekend. Warm white along the trim looks good every night. A brighter security white helps on darker side streets off 49th Street and Shore Boulevard. Saved scenes cover Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth and game nights, and you can switch between them in seconds.
Beach Boulevard and Waterfront District businesses
The Waterfront District along Beach Boulevard South down to the shoreline, plus the 49th Street corridor, is where most Gulfport storefront requests come from. For businesses we set steady brand colors after dark and switch to a seasonal scene for the holidays, with schedules that turn everything off after closing. We check the city’s sign rules before programming any facade animation.
Bay-side, not Gulf-front
Gulfport’s shoreline is Boca Ciega Bay, so the May-through-October turtle schedule that governs the Gulf beach towns usually isn’t the question here. Rain and flooding are: during Milton in 2024, a Gulfport rain gauge recorded more than 14 inches. We keep the controller and power supply indoors and above areas that take on water, and we fasten into framing for Pinellas wind loads.
Warranty: JellyFish Lighting’s 5-year parts warranty covers lights, controllers and power supplies. Our workmanship is warrantied 2 years, or 5 years with a Member Care Plan, which also includes 7% off labor and materials. We’re a Home Depot preferred contractor, with 24/7 help for electrical emergencies.
Gulfport JellyFish Lighting FAQ
Will my lights be up for the Gulfport boat parade? If you book soon, yes. The Boca Ciega Yacht Club’s 40th Lighted Christmas Boat Parade is on Saturday, December 12, 2026, starting at 6 p.m., the same day as the city’s holiday parade at 2 p.m. Organizers can change dates, so check their pages. Once your system is in, you can set a Christmas scene to start before the boats leave the marina.
My Gulfport cottage is from the 1950s. Can it take permanent lights? Most can. We check the fascia and soffit boards first and replace or reinforce anything soft before mounting track. Older homes sometimes lack a good GFCI outlet for the controller, and adding one is routine electrical work for us.
Do sea turtle rules apply in Gulfport? Gulfport sits on Boca Ciega Bay, not the open Gulf, so the beach towns’ turtle-season schedule usually isn’t a factor. If your lights could be seen from a beach, we follow FWC guidance and keep decorative color off from May 1 through October 31.
Can a Beach Boulevard shop or restaurant use it? Yes. We set up steady brand colors for evenings and holiday scenes for the season. Before programming anything that flashes or changes color on the facade, we check the city’s sign rules.
Is it only for Christmas? No. Plenty of Gulfport owners run warm white along the trim most nights, use a brighter white on dark side streets, and save Rays, Bucs or Lightning colors for game nights. Christmas is one of many scenes.
Who pulls the permit? We do. If the controller needs a new outlet or circuit, we pull the permit and handle the inspection as part of the job.
