Bayonet Point grew up in the 1970s and ’80s. The Census Bureau’s estimates show that about 45% of its homes were built in the 1970s and another 31% in the 1980s, so more than three in four predate 1990. Only about 1% are from 2010 or later. Around 23,800 people live there, the median age is 49, and about 72% of homes are owner-occupied. About 68% of housing units are detached houses, and about 15% are in buildings of five or more units. For an owner of a 1970s house who’s tired of hauling out seasonal lights, Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) offers JellyFish permanent lighting as the alternative. KWLE is a woman-owned Florida electrical contractor with license EC13014717. From 6248 Seminole Blvd to Bayonet Point is 35.0 miles in a straight line.

Why the house’s age matters
A JellyFish system is only as good as what it’s fastened to and what powers it. On a house that’s 40 or 50 years old, both deserve a close look. Here’s what we inspect on the design visit, and why:
- Soffit
- It’s often been replaced or painted several times. We make sure the panels are secure and that the material will hold fasteners.
- Fascia
- Wood behind gutters can rot without showing it. We probe the corners and low spots.
- Gable trim
- It faces the most sun and weather, so we check for cracks and loose boards.
- Garage receptacle
- On older homes it may be ungrounded or unprotected. We put a tester on it and check the breaker and GFCI behind it.
- Wi-Fi
- Older block construction can weaken the signal in the garage, so we test it.
You get the findings in writing, with photos. If repairs are needed, you can have us handle the electrical ones and choose anyone you like for carpentry.
Mounting
Track is fixed to the bottom face of the soffit, eave by eave, and carried up each gable rake. Roof shingles are left alone; we never fasten anything on the roof. JellyFish supplies the track color-matched to your soffit, and each light stands roughly a quarter inch off it, so by day the house looks like it always has.
One controller, in the garage
The controller mounts in the garage and plugs into an existing outlet. A low-voltage lead runs up to the eave. If your home has no attached garage, we’ll look for another dry, protected indoor spot with an existing outlet. On older houses, we’d rather fix a doubtful receptacle than plug into it, and we’ll tell you which applies.
Condos and multi-unit buildings
About 15% of Bayonet Point’s housing is in larger buildings. A JellyFish install on those is a decision for the association, because the eaves and power belong to the building. If you serve on a board, we’re happy to look at a building-wide plan.
Lighting a single-story ranch
If your house is a single-story ranch, there are some advantages. The eave sits close to eye level, so even a modest brightness reads well from the street. A long, straight front eave makes a strong single line, and any gable over the entry or garage gives the outline a center point. For spacing, 9 inches gives the classic holiday look, and 16 inches gives a calm accent look for everyday use. Whites run from 2700K warm to 5000K cool.
Holidays and every day
Permanent Christmas lights are the reason most people call, whether that’s a multicolor outline, a red-and-green chase or a gentle white twinkle. The same system handles everything else. You can save a permanent holiday light scene for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, the Fourth, Halloween and Thanksgiving, and the app calendar switches them by date at sunset. Between holidays, a dim warm white lights the steps and entry.
A retirement-friendly upgrade
With a median age near 49, plenty of Bayonet Point households are planning for the years ahead. Permanent lighting fits those plans well. It removes a seasonal chore that involves ladders and heavy bins. It gives the entry and steps steady evening light, which makes coming home after dark easier. And it can be managed by someone else if you’d like. A son, daughter or neighbor can be given app access to change the scenes for you. You don’t have to use any of the color features if you don’t want to. Some owners simply set a warm white for every evening and a Christmas scene for December, and never open the app again.
Two zones
A single zone puts every light on the same scene. Two zones are an added KWLE option, useful if you want the front and back, or the house and a detached carport, on separate scenes.
Coastal Pasco weather
Helene, in September 2024, pushed water an estimated 2 to 5 feet above MHHW along the Pasco coast, by the Weather Service’s account, with gusts mostly in the 50s. During Milton a few weeks later, rainfall across Pasco generally ranged from 8 to 12 inches. Your lights ride out a storm where they live, sheltered by the overhang, while the controller sits indoors.
If repairs come first
On a house this age, the inspection sometimes turns up a section of soft fascia or a tired garage receptacle. That doesn’t end the project. It just puts a step in front of it. We’ll photograph and describe each item so any contractor can quote it. Electrical fixes we can handle ourselves. Once the repairs are done, the lights go onto sound material, and the controller plugs into a receptacle that has passed our test.
Warranty
Hardware is covered by JellyFish’s 5-year parts warranty. KWLE adds a 2-year workmanship warranty on our install, or 5 years for Member Care Plan members.
Permits
Bayonet Point is unincorporated Pasco County. When a permit is required, KWLE pulls it on our license and meets the inspector.

Common questions
Is my 1970s house too old? Age alone isn’t the problem. The condition of the soffit, fascia and outlet is what matters, and we check all three.
Does a failed light take out the rest? No. JellyFish uses a redundant data line.
Can I keep it all white? Yes. Color is there when you want it.
Do I need a smartphone? The app runs on a phone or tablet. A relative can manage it for you from their own device.
Are you a woman-owned company? Yes. KWLE is woman-owned; no certification is claimed.
Facts on this page were checked against: the Census Bureau’s ACS five-year tables for Bayonet Point (year built and more); the Weather Service’s storm narratives for Helene and Milton; and the Census list of Florida places. JellyFish Lighting provides the product images.
