Cheval is a small unincorporated community in north Hillsborough County, with about 14,000 residents according to the Census. Its housing is mixed. Roughly 59% of units are detached houses, and about 30% sit in buildings with five or more units. The median home was built in 1994. Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) installs JellyFish permanent lighting on Cheval homes and, with association approval, on multi-unit buildings. We’re woman-owned, licensed as electrical contractor EC13014717, and authorized by JellyFish Lighting as a dealer. Our base at 6248 Seminole Blvd is 27.5 miles from Cheval in a straight line.

Most people come to us with the same set of questions, roughly in this order. Here are our answers.

One photo is enough: share your Cheval house below and we’ll send back a free lit-eave preview.

JellyFish Lighting Authorized Dealer seal

We are an Authorized Dealer of JellyFish Lighting, not JellyFish Lighting itself.

1. “What exactly is JellyFish?”

It’s a permanent exterior lighting system: a low-profile aluminum track holding individually addressable LED lights. Each light can be any color and brightness, controlled from an app on your phone. People buy it for permanent Christmas lights, and then they use it all year for accent light, security light and celebrations.

2. “Where on my house does it go?”

Two spots: tucked beneath the soffit following each eave, and climbing the gable rakes. Nowhere else. Roof coverings and ridges stay untouched, with zero fasteners through shingles, tile or metal. When we take measurements, JellyFish matches the channel’s color to your soffit, and the lights sit almost flush, so by day the system mostly disappears.

3. “Where does it plug in?”

The controller mounts on a wall in your garage and plugs into an existing outlet. A low-voltage cable runs from it up into the soffit to the track. There’s no new box on the exterior and no cord hanging down a wall.

4. “Is my garage outlet good enough?”

We find out before we use it. Our electrician identifies the breaker feeding that outlet, checks what else shares the circuit, confirms ground-fault protection, and inspects the receptacle. Houses from the 1990s are usually in decent shape, but thirty years of added freezers, chargers and tools can overload a garage circuit. If anything fails, you’ll get a written explanation and options. Repairs are separate and your call.

5. “I live in a condo or a multi-unit building. Can I have it?”

Census numbers put close to three in ten Cheval homes inside larger buildings (five-plus units). There, the exterior is almost always controlled by an association, so permanent lighting is a board decision, not an individual one. We work directly with boards and managers on building eaves, entrances and common areas. We can provide product information, photos, a written scope and an electrical plan that uses the building’s existing circuits where possible.

6. “Will my HOA allow it?”

Check your documents first. Many associations regulate exterior lighting, animated effects and holiday display dates, and many require architectural approval for permanent changes. JellyFish tends to be easier to approve than strands, because it’s color-matched to the house, nearly invisible by day, and programmable. Program plain warm white for the off-season, and let colors run only on the dates your rules permit. We’ll prepare the materials for your application.

7. “Can the front and back do different things?”

One zone puts the whole house on one scene, and that is how most Cheval owners run it. KWLE offers two zones as an extra option, letting the street-facing side and the rear of the house follow separate scenes. Owners like it when the backyard looks onto a pond or a close neighbor and needs a calmer look.

8. “What would I actually use it for?”

  • December: permanent Christmas lights in classic multicolor or a warm white twinkle.
  • Every evening: a soft 2700K glow under the eaves from dusk to bedtime.
  • Overnight: bright white over the driveway and entry on a schedule.
  • Game days: Bucs, Lightning or Rays colors.
  • Family occasions: birthdays, anniversaries, a graduate’s school colors.

You save every permanent holiday light look as a preset, then drop it onto the app’s calendar, including sunset-based timing that shifts with the seasons.

9. “Will it bother my neighbors?”

It shouldn’t, and we set it up so it won’t. Each light is individually controlled, so the side of the house facing a neighbor’s window can run dimmer, or have its nearest few lights switched off entirely, while the street side stays bright. Each light is rated at 21 lumens or less, depending on color, so the effect is a glow, not a spotlight.

10. “What do I need at home for the app?”

A smartphone or tablet and a Wi-Fi network that reaches the garage. We measure signal strength at the controller spot during the visit and tell you whether a simple extender or mesh node would help.

11. “What about hurricanes?”

Cheval is inland, but the National Weather Service measured 10 to 15 inches of Milton rainfall over much of the county in October 2024. Track under the overhang is sheltered from direct wind and rain, and the controller stays dry indoors. There’s nothing to take down before a storm and nothing to re-hang after.

12. “Who handles the permit?”

We do. Cheval has no city government; permits come from Hillsborough County. When one applies, it’s filed on our license and we’re there for the inspection.

13. “What’s the warranty?”

Parts (track, lights, controller): five years from JellyFish, i.e. the JellyFish 5-year parts warranty. Our labor: the KWLE 2-year workmanship warranty, stretched to five years for anyone on a Member Care Plan.

14. “What if one light dies?”

JellyFish lights carry a redundant data line, so a single failed light doesn’t take down the rest of the run. Call (727) 476-7079 and we’ll replace it under warranty.

15. “Who actually does the installation?”

Our own licensed crew. We don’t subcontract installs. The people who test your garage circuit are the same people who mount the track.

16. “What’s the process?”

  1. A free design visit: measuring, photos, outlet and Wi-Fi checks, and a talk about your scenes.
  2. A written proposal with runs, controller location, zones and warranty. Pricing comes on paper, never on the driveway.
  3. Installation by our licensed team.
  4. An app setup session so you leave with your calendar running.

17. “How far are you from Cheval?”

27.5 miles straight-line from our Seminole shop. Hillsborough County is a regular part of our service area, and warranty visits come to you.

18. “Can I see it lit before I commit?”

On the design visit we show photos of finished JellyFish homes, so you can judge the look before you decide. We’ll also mark a photo of your own house with the planned runs, so you can picture the outline before anything is mounted.

19. “Is KWLE a woman-owned business?”

Yes. We describe ourselves as woman-owned and make no certification claims.
