Gulfport has some of the oldest homes we work on
Gulfport is a city of about 11,700 residents (Census ACS 2020–2024), and its median home was built in 1963. That’s the oldest of any city on our main service list. Around the waterfront district on Beach Blvd and the streets near Boca Ciega Bay, you’ll find cottages and bungalows from the 1920s through the 1950s, many renovated in pieces over the decades. What that means:
- Mixed wiring generations in one house: original wiring, remodel-era Romex, and sometimes knob-and-tube or ungrounded circuits. Rewiring →
- Fuse boxes and obsolete panels (Federal Pacific, Zinsco) that insurers flag. FPE & Zinsco replacement →
- Small services (60–100 amps) that can’t support central AC, an EV and a modern kitchen together. Service upgrades →
- Low-lying, flood-exposed homes near the bay, some of which took water in the 2024 hurricanes
- Small businesses and restaurants in the waterfront district that need commercial service
We respect the character of older homes: we fish wires where we can, patch neatly, and explain your options for phased upgrades if a full rewire isn’t in this year’s budget.
Permits in Gulfport
Gulfport issues its own permits through the City of Gulfport Community Development Department, Building Division (5330 23rd Ave S). Contractors submit through the city’s online portal. Gulfport doesn’t do “sign-ons,” so each trade pulls its own permit, and inspections are scheduled through the city’s inspection line. We handle all of it.

Gulfport FAQ
My 1940s cottage has a fuse box. Do I need to replace it? Fuse boxes can still work, but they’re often undersized, easy to over-fuse, and many Florida insurers won’t cover them. Replacing it with a modern breaker panel and surge protection is one of the best safety upgrades for an older home.
Can you rewire an older house without tearing up all the walls? Often, yes. We use attic and crawl-space access and fish wires where possible, and patch neatly where we can’t. We’ll explain the plan before we start.
Who issues electrical permits in Gulfport? The City of Gulfport’s Building Division. Each trade needs its own permit, and we pull ours.
Do you work on Gulfport businesses? Yes. We provide repairs, lighting, service upgrades and build-outs for shops and restaurants. Commercial →
