Permanent Christmas Light Installation in Tampa and Hillsborough County

Yes. Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) installs permanent Christmas lights across Hillsborough County, from Tampa out to Thonotosassa and down to Sun City Center. JellyFish goes up once, under the soffit and up the gable rakes, and every December after that you turn on a Christmas scene from your phone; the rest of the year the same lights run warm white, other holidays and team colors. KWLE is woman-owned and a licensed Florida electrical contractor (EC13014717), and our crew drives over from 6248 Seminole Blvd for each job. For town-level pages, see our JellyFish lighting in Hillsborough County hub.

Hillsborough is the biggest county in the Tampa Bay area: 1,522,748 residents in the Census Bureau’s 2020–2024 estimates, with a median age of 37.9 and a median year built of 1991 or earlier. That means plenty of newer two-story houses in Brandon, Riverview, Valrico, Westchase and FishHawk with tall gables and long eaves, the hardest homes to decorate from a ladder each December and the easiest to light once. Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) installs JellyFish across the county as an authorized dealer, not as the manufacturer. We’re a woman-owned business with Florida license EC13014717. Call 727-476-7079. For our full county page, see JellyFish Lighting in Hillsborough County.

What a permanent system means here

The lights ride in a slim, trim-colored track fastened under the soffit along every eave and up each gable rake, never on the roof. A garage controller on an existing outlet runs them from a phone app. December can be red and green, warm white with color or any palette you save; the rest of the year they handle everyday accent, security light and other holidays, which is why the system also goes by permanent holiday lighting.

Two-story homes and tall gables

Much of the county’s housing went up in the 1990s and 2000s, and plenty of it is two-story with steep front gables over the entry and garage. With seasonal strands, that’s an extension ladder at full height every year; with permanent track, it’s one careful install by licensed electricians with a lift or tall ladder, and no climbing after. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports about 160 holiday decorating injuries a day during the season, nearly half of them falls.

A Christmas calendar you set once

The JellyFish app has a yearly calendar. A common Hillsborough setup:

  • Day after Thanksgiving: Christmas scene on, dusk to 11 p.m.
  • Weekends in December: later shut-off for visitors.
  • Christmas Eve and Christmas Day: a special animated scene.
  • New Year’s Eve: gold and white until after midnight.
  • January 2: back to everyday warm white.

Set it once, and it comes back next year on its own.

Palettes Hillsborough owners pick

Red and green, cool white with blue accents, candy-cane red and white, warm white with a slow twinkle, or multicolor for the kids. Spacing changes the look too: 6 inches makes a dense, bright line, 9 inches the classic Christmas string, 16 inches a softer everyday glow.

Power and placement

Controller and power supplies hang on the garage wall on an existing outlet we test first, with a low-voltage lead up to the eave. No outlets under the eaves, no boxes outside; if the garage outlet needs updating, we quote a GFCI-protected replacement.

Storm-tested county

Helene’s surge set a new mark of 7.2 feet above MHHW on the East Bay gauge, per NWS Tampa Bay, and a record 6.86 feet at Old Port Tampa, both topping the Idalia records from 2023, with gusts near Tampa International Airport reaching 68 mph. In storm country, permanent lights make sense: nothing to take down before a storm, track tucked under the eave, electronics indoors. In flood-prone garages, the controller goes well above the floor.

Waterfront homes in South County

Apollo Beach, Ruskin and other bay-side neighborhoods deal with salt spray and surge risk, so we use sealed connections and mount controllers high. If a home faces a nesting beach, beach-visible eaves go on their own zone that stays dark May 1 to October 31; Christmas falls outside that window, so the whole house can glow in December.

Two zones, an extra option

Two zones come as an extra KWLE option, letting the front run Christmas color while the back, such as over a pool cage, stays a calm white. It’s also handy on corner lots and for homes with a beach side.

Energy use

LEDs draw far less than old incandescent strands; federal energy figures put the savings as high as 90% and the lifespan up to 25 times longer. That’s why plenty of owners keep a warm white accent on every night.

HOAs and deed restrictions

Newer master-planned subdivisions here have architectural review. A low-profile, trim-colored track that runs white most of the year helps with approval, and we provide the product sheet, photos and a drawing of the eave runs. A new circuit, if needed, is permitted under our license.

Holiday traffic and visitors

If you host relatives over the holidays, a lit house makes it easy for guests to find you at night, and a brighter white over the driveway helps them get from the car to the door. Both can be added to your December schedule as separate scenes.

After Christmas

The lights don’t come down after the holidays. They become your everyday porch and eave light, then switch to red, white and blue in July, orange in October, and your team’s colors for the big game.

Permanent lights on house trim: what Hillsborough County homeowners get

Before we leave, we go through the app with you on your own phone. Most Hillsborough calls come from people tired of ladders and tangled strands.

What we aim for on a Hillsborough County house is one straight, evenly spaced line on every eave and gable rake. Nothing gets hung in November and nothing comes down in January, and the trim-colored channel leaves the house looking the same by day.

Hillsborough questions

Looking for permanent Christmas lights near me around Hillsborough County, where do I begin?

Begin with the free mockup on this page; then we come out to measure and set up the app.

How quickly can Christmas light installers reach Hillsborough County?

Our state-licensed crew, EC13014717, handles permanent holiday lights in Hillsborough County, from the first photo to the final walk-through.

Do the lights show during the day? Painted to match and hidden beneath the overhang, the track is hard to spot from the street.

Can I control them from work? Yes, from anywhere your phone has a connection.

Is a permit required? Not when the controller plugs into an existing garage outlet. New wiring is permitted under our license.

Will my HOA approve it? We can’t promise that, but we’ll supply everything the board asks for.

Your HOA approval packet from us includes:

  • Manufacturer details on the lights and track
  • Which track color we picked to blend with your trim
  • Your home’s photo with the runs drawn in along eaves and gable rakes
  • Controller spot inside the garage and its power
  • Florida license EC13014717 for KWLE

The association decides; we make sure it has everything it needs.

Who installs Christmas lights in Tampa? KWLE’s own licensed electricians, in Tampa and across the county. Start with a free design preview or call 727-476-7079.

Are permanent holiday lights a different product? No, it’s one system. Christmas is a saved scene, and the same lights run every other holiday and an everyday white.

Is KWLE woman-owned? Yes, a woman owns the company.

What’s the warranty? Parts: JellyFish, 5 years. Workmanship: KWLE, 2 years, or 5 with Member Care.

Do you go on the roof? No. Track goes beneath the soffit and up the gable rakes only; nothing is fastened to the roof.

Permanent track or seasonal clips: how do they compare?

A yearly decorator gets the most out of going permanent, because hanging, removing and storing all stop. For one season only, hiring hangers is the simpler choice. We fasten the JellyFish channel a single time beneath the eaves and along the gable rakes of a Hillsborough house, and each holiday after that is handled in the app.
