Gibsonton’s housing doesn’t look like the rest of Hillsborough County. According to the Census, more than a quarter of its housing units (27%) are mobile or manufactured homes, about two-thirds are detached site-built houses, and nearly 28% of all homes went up in 2010 or later. Around 18,800 people live in this unincorporated community on the east side of Tampa Bay. Keywest Lights & Electric plans JellyFish permanent lighting around each of those home types. We’re an authorized JellyFish Lighting dealer, a woman-owned company, and a Florida-licensed electrical contractor (EC13014717). Measured straight across the bay, our 6248 Seminole Blvd shop sits 24.9 miles from Gibsonton.

Pick your home type
Site-built house with a garage
This is the simplest layout. Here the controller goes on a garage wall and takes power from an existing outlet. Before it does, our electrician identifies the breaker, checks what else that circuit feeds and confirms ground-fault protection. Low-voltage wire goes up through the soffit to the track, which runs beneath the eaves and climbs the gable rakes. Nothing attaches to the roof covering or the ridge.
Newer home from the 2010s or 2020s
Newer wiring is a good start, not a guarantee. Garages in new houses often pick up a refrigerator, a charger or a workshop over time. We test the outlet and circuit anyway. A newer house usually has a deep, even overhang, which gives the track an unbroken line and a clean look from the street.
Manufactured or mobile home
Many manufactured homes can take JellyFish. Whether yours can depends on three things: an overhang or eave to mount beneath, sound fascia material, and a protected indoor location with an existing outlet for the controller. We look at all three on the visit and tell you honestly if it isn’t a fit. If you’re in a park or community with rules about exterior changes, get approval first. We’ll provide product information and a marked-up photo for the request.
Rented home
About 30% of occupied homes in Gibsonton are rented. If yours is, the owner has to sign off in writing before we mount anything, because the track becomes part of the house.
Close to the bay
Gibsonton sits along the Tampa Bay shoreline in southern Hillsborough. The National Weather Service recorded Helene’s 2024 surge at roughly 5 to 8 feet over normal high tide on the Hillsborough coast. Lighting has to account for that. Our controller is always mounted indoors and up off the floor. The light track sits under the overhang, out of the direct wind. When a storm is on the way, you don’t have to take anything down.
How the track looks by day
At the measuring visit we match the channel to your soffit color, and the lights barely protrude. By day, most passersby won’t notice it. At night, every light can be its own color and brightness.
Things Gibsonton households program
- Permanent Christmas lights from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s Day, in whatever style you like: classic multicolor, all white, or a slow chase.
- Evening accent: warm white over the porch and driveway every night from dusk.
- Security: full white over the side yard and carport on an overnight timer.
- Celebrations: birthday colors, quinceañera colors, graduation colors.
- Team pride: Your team’s colors on game days.
Every scene, including each permanent holiday light pattern, is saved in the app, and the calendar switches them for you.
More ideas for Gibsonton homes: fall Halloween scenes, patriotic July lighting and security lighting under the eaves.
Carports, porches and add-ons
Many homes have structures attached after the fact: a carport, a screened porch, a storage room. Each one changes where light can go. A carport with a solid fascia board can often carry track along its edge, so the lights wrap the house and then continue over the parking area. A screened porch roof usually has a shallow overhang, and whether we can use it depends on the framing. We look at every add-on separately and tell you which ones make sense. Sometimes leaving a section dark gives a cleaner result than forcing track onto a surface that wasn’t built for it.
Brightness without glare
If your home sits close to the next one, a neighbor’s bedroom window may be only a few yards from your eave, and bright color there can be unwelcome at midnight. Every light is individually adjustable, so we can dim the side facing a neighbor while the front stays bright. We can also switch off the few lights nearest a window and leave the rest on. We set these at the hand-off so the system is a good neighbor from the first night.
Optional second zone
Run as a single zone, the whole house shows one scene. Two zones, an extra KWLE option, let the street side and the back (or the house and a detached garage) show different scenes. Plenty of Gibsonton homes don’t need it, and we’ll tell you if yours doesn’t.
Electrical problems we sometimes find
Because we’re electricians first, the design visit sometimes turns up issues unrelated to lighting: a loose receptacle, a missing GFCI, a breaker that’s been tripping, a doubled-up neutral. We’ll point out anything that matters for safety, even if it’s outside our lighting scope. Fixing it is a separate conversation and your decision. We won’t connect the controller to a circuit we don’t trust.
Permits
Gibsonton is unincorporated, so Hillsborough County is the permitting authority. When a permit is required, it’s filed under KWLE’s license and we handle the inspection.
Warranty
For five years, JellyFish’s 5-year parts warranty stands behind the lights and controller. Our 2-year workmanship warranty stands behind the install, or five years for Member Care Plan households.
