Most people find JellyFish through Christmas lights. Many owners end up valuing it most on ordinary nights in March or August, when a bright, even white along the eaves lights the driveway, side yard and front door. Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) is a woman-owned Florida electrical contractor (EC13014717) in Seminole. We install JellyFish as everyday perimeter lighting that also happens to handle every holiday. This page covers how to use it for security and visibility, where it fits next to floodlights and cameras, and what we check as electricians.

What eave lighting does well
- Even coverage: lights every few inches along the eave wash the walls and ground below without the hot spots and deep shadows of a single fixture.
- All sides: runs can wrap the front, sides and back, including the dark side yard many houses ignore.
- Scheduling: on at sunset and off at sunrise, or dimmed overnight and brighter at the times you choose.
- Camera-friendly light: steady white light along the walls can help doorbell and security cameras capture clearer color at night.
- Lived-in look: a routine that runs while you travel makes the house look occupied.
What it doesn’t replace
JellyFish isn’t a motion floodlight, and it isn’t a substitute for locks, alarms or cameras. Many homes use both: eave lighting provides a steady base level of light all night, and a motion floodlight over the driveway adds a burst of brightness when something moves. If you need new floodlight circuits, our electricians can add them during the same project.
Choosing the right white
| Setting | Best for |
|---|---|
| 2700K warm white, low | Curb appeal and a soft glow on quiet streets |
| 3500–4000K neutral, medium | Walkways, steps and entries, where you want true colors without glare |
| 5000K cool white, higher | Driveways, side yards and the back of the house |
With two zones, you can run warmer, softer light out front and cooler, brighter light along the sides and back.
A sample overnight schedule
- Sunset to 11 p.m.: neutral white at medium brightness around the whole house.
- 11 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.: front dimmed to a low warm white, sides and back held at a steady cool white.
- 5:30 a.m. to sunrise: brighter again for early commutes and dog walks.
The schedule is set in the JellyFish app, and you can change it anytime.
Energy use
Lights left on all night need to be efficient. JellyFish uses LEDs, which the U.S. Department of Energy says use up to 90% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last up to 25 times longer. Each JellyFish light draws less than one watt, and you can dim the lights overnight to use even less.
The two-zone option
On one zone, the whole house follows one schedule. As an extra KWLE option, two zones let the front and back run different settings. That’s usually the most useful upgrade for security lighting: the street side stays neighbor-friendly while the back and sides stay brighter.
Where the lights go
Track is fastened under the soffit along the eaves and up the gable rakes, and never on the roof. Because the lights face down, they light the wall, windows and ground beneath them instead of shining into the street or a neighbor’s bedroom. In daytime, the color-matched track is barely visible.
Electrical checks we make
An everyday system runs every night of the year, so the power behind it matters. The controller mounts in the garage and plugs into an existing outlet, and before that happens we:
- Test the receptacle for correct polarity and grounding.
- Confirm GFCI protection.
- Check what else shares the circuit, such as a freezer, opener or workshop tools.
- Look at the panel for signs of trouble, like double-tapped breakers or scorching.
If anything needs work, we quote it separately, so you know exactly what it’s for.
Walking the property at night
Good security lighting starts with seeing your house the way a visitor does after dark. Before we design a layout, it helps to walk around the house one evening and note:
- Where you trip or slow down: steps, pavers, a sloped driveway.
- Which windows and doors sit in deep shadow.
- Where cameras show only darkness or glare.
- Side gates, trash-can areas and AC units that are hard to see.
- Spots where existing fixtures are too bright and shine into neighboring yards.
Bring those notes to the estimate visit, and we’ll design runs that cover the gaps instead of just outlining the front.
Corner and side-yard coverage
Side yards are where most houses go dark. They’re narrow, rarely have fixtures, and are often where gates, pool equipment and the AC condenser sit. Continuing the eave run around the corner and down the side puts light right where it’s needed, without adding a pole or a floodlight that shines over the fence. On homes with a pitched side gable, the run can follow the gable rake under the overhang.
Holidays are the bonus
The same lights that brighten your side yard on a Tuesday become permanent Christmas lights in December, orange in October and red, white and blue in July. Every permanent holiday light scene is saved and comes back on its date, then the house returns to your everyday white.
No more ladders
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates about 160 holiday decorating injuries a day during the season, and nearly half involve falls. A permanent system takes ladder trips off your list. After installation, there’s nothing to hang or take down.
For seniors and caregivers
Steady light at the entry, steps and driveway makes it easier to get home after dark, and easier for visitors and caregivers to find the door. Family members can be given app access to manage the schedule remotely.
Communities with rules
Some associations limit outdoor lighting brightness or color. Everyday white usually meets those rules, and JellyFish’s HOA guidance includes a setting of 21 lumens or lower plus a 2700K accent preset. We can provide a layout for the association’s review.
Rentals and second homes
If a house sits empty for weeks at a time, consistent evening light is one of the simplest ways to make it look occupied. Owners of seasonal homes and rentals often set a year-round white schedule and control it remotely, then check from their phone that it’s running.
Warranty
Hardware carries JellyFish’s 5-year parts warranty. Our installation and electrical work carry KWLE’s 2-year workmanship warranty, extended to five years under a Member Care Plan.
Security lighting FAQ
Will the lights trigger my motion cameras? Steady lights don’t usually trip motion detection. Animated scenes can, so keep moving effects off the camera-facing runs.
Can it connect to my smart home? JellyFish works with Alexa, Google Home and Control4.
What if a light goes out? JellyFish’s redundant data line keeps the rest on until we replace it under warranty.
Can I see the lights before I commit? We provide a photo-based design preview of your house, and the written proposal lists every run.
Is KWLE woman-owned? Yes, KWLE is woman-owned, with no certification claimed.
