Ruskin has grown fast. The Census estimates that about 43% of its homes were built in 2010 or later, and the median home dates to 2007. About 29,800 people now live in this unincorporated community on the southern shore of Hillsborough County. Keywest Lights & Electric installs JellyFish permanent lighting here. We’re a woman-owned electrical contractor licensed under EC13014717, and an authorized JellyFish dealer working from 6248 Seminole Blvd. That’s 23.8 miles from Ruskin as the crow flies, straight across Tampa Bay.

New construction, finished properly
Many Ruskin owners moved into houses that were finished in the last few years. A builder’s exterior usually stops at a porch light and a coach lamp by the garage. JellyFish fills the gap with a permanent, low-profile track that adds holiday color in December and clean accent light the rest of the year, and that never needs a ladder again.
Ruskin households often go on to read about Halloween looks for October, a lit-up Fourth and security lighting under the eaves.
A newer house is usually straightforward for us, but we don’t assume. Before anything is mounted, our electrician:
- Identifies the breaker for the garage outlet the controller will use.
- Checks what else draws on that circuit: a freezer, an opener, a charger.
- Confirms the outlet is GFCI-protected and in good shape.
- Tests Wi-Fi strength at the garage wall.
If anything fails those checks, we put it in writing. Repairs are separate and your choice.
Placement we never compromise on
The aluminum track mounts under your soffit along each eave, and along the gable rakes where your house has front-facing gables. That’s it. We do not attach anything to the roof covering, we don’t run lights along the ridge, and nothing pierces your shingles or tile. The overhang hides the track by day and shelters it in bad weather.
Bay-shore weather
Ruskin sits on the Tampa Bay side of Hillsborough County. Helene in 2024 drove water 5 to 8 feet above the usual high-tide mark along the Hillsborough shoreline, per the National Weather Service. Water like that is why every Ruskin install follows two rules:
- The controller stays inside the garage, mounted on the wall and up off the floor, plugged into an existing outlet.
- The light track stays under the eave, sheltered from wind-driven rain instead of out in the open.
Storm warnings don’t add a lighting chore, before or after.
Manufactured homes
About one in ten housing units in Ruskin is a mobile or manufactured home, according to the Census. We can often install JellyFish on these too. It depends on the overhang, the fascia material and where power is available. Some don’t have a garage. In that case, we’ll talk through another indoor or protected location that meets the same standard: an existing, tested outlet, out of the weather. If your community has park rules about exterior changes, check them first, and we’ll provide product details for any approval.
Uses through the year
January to March: warm white accent at night, with a game-day scene for playoff weekends.
Spring: pastels for Easter, school colors for graduation.
Summer: red, white and blue for the Fourth, then back to warm white.
Fall: orange and purple for Halloween, amber for Thanksgiving.
December: your permanent Christmas lights take over, with a chase, a twinkle or a steady red and green.
Each permanent holiday light scene lives in the app, ready to be put on the calendar months ahead.
One zone or two
A single zone keeps the whole house on one scene; KWLE can add a second zone as an extra. It’s useful if you want the front facing the street to do something different from the back, or the main house to do something different from a garage wing. Talk it through with us at the design visit. Not every layout needs it.
HOAs in newer communities
If your neighborhood has an HOA, it may regulate exterior lighting, animated displays and the dates holiday decorations can run. Permanent lighting can usually meet those rules: set warm white for most of the year and limit color scenes to the allowed window. We’ll supply photos, a description of the product and where it mounts, and a marked-up image of your house for the architectural request.
Permits
Ruskin is unincorporated, so Hillsborough County is the permitting authority. Any permit your job needs is pulled on KWLE’s license, inspection included.
Warranty and service
Ruskin installs come with JellyFish’s 5-year parts warranty on channel, lights and controller, and KWLE’s 2-year workmanship warranty on our labor, extended to five for Member Care members. If a run goes dark, call (727) 476-7079.
What a Ruskin project looks like
You reach out by phone or form. We schedule a visit, look at every elevation, measure the eaves and gable rakes, run the electrical and Wi-Fi checks above, and ask how you want to use the system. You get a written proposal. If you go ahead, our licensed crew does the install. No subcontractors. Before we leave, we pair the app, build scenes with you and set your schedule.
Getting ready for the design visit
A little preparation makes the visit faster and the proposal more accurate:
- Find your HOA documents, if you have them, especially any pages on exterior lighting or holiday decorations.
- Know your Wi-Fi network name and password, so we can check the connection from the garage on the spot.
- Clear a path to the garage outlet you’d like to use, and to the electrical panel.
- Think about the views that matter. Is it the street, the backyard, or both? That answer decides whether the two-zone option makes sense.
- Make a short list of scenes you’d use: holidays, teams, school colors, everyday white.
None of that is required. We’ll work through it with you either way. But owners who come in with answers usually get a design that fits on the first try.

Ruskin questions
Is my house too new to need an electrician’s check? No house is. It takes a few minutes and avoids nuisance trips and dropouts later.
Will the lights survive salt air? It’s an exterior-rated product, it sits sheltered under the eave, and JellyFish warrants the parts for five years.
Can you match my soffit color? Yes. We choose the channel color with you at the design visit so it blends into the soffit.
Is KWLE woman-owned? Yes. We describe ourselves only as woman-owned and don’t claim a certification.
Can I add lights to a lanai or porch later? Often, yes. Track can be extended to new runs, and we’ll look at your options on a follow-up visit.
How far are you? 23.8 miles in a straight line from our Seminole shop, and Hillsborough County is part of our regular service area.
