Hudson skews older: the Census Bureau puts the median age near 64. About 11,300 people live there, and about 77% of homes are owner-occupied. A little over a quarter of housing units, about 27%, are mobile or manufactured homes, and about 62% are detached houses. Most homes were built between the 1970s and 1990s, and the median dates from 1984. For residents who’ve strung their last ladder-climb of Christmas lights, Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) can put up JellyFish lights one time, for good. We’re a woman-owned electrical contractor, Florida license EC13014717, located 37.1 miles away in a straight line at 6248 Seminole Blvd.

No more ladders

Falls from ladders are a real risk, at any age. That alone is reason enough for many people to stop hanging seasonal lights. JellyFish is installed once by our licensed crew, and after that you never need to climb anything. You turn the lights on, change colors and set schedules from a phone or tablet. If you’d rather not deal with an app, a family member can manage it remotely, or you can set a calendar once and leave it alone.

Simple to run

We set up the app on whichever devices you choose and leave written notes on the scenes we built. A typical setup for a Hudson home might be:

  • Warm white from sunset to 10 p.m. every night.
  • Permanent Christmas lights from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s Day.
  • A few holidays in color: Valentine’s Day, the Fourth, Halloween.

Once that’s scheduled, the house runs itself. Each permanent holiday light scene stays saved for next year.

Where the lights go

Lights live in two places: the underside of your eaves and the slope of each gable rake. Your roof covering is never drilled, and no light sits on the roof. With the track matched to the soffit color and a profile of about a quarter inch, few visitors will notice it in daylight.

Controller and safety checks

One controller runs the system. We mount it in the garage and plug it into an existing outlet, then run a low-voltage line up to the eave. On a house from the ’70s or ’80s, the garage receptacle may be original, so we test it ourselves, along with the breaker, the GFCI and anything else drawing on that line. If something should be fixed first, you’ll get it in writing.

Manufactured homes

With about a quarter of Hudson’s housing units being mobile or manufactured homes, this question comes up often. JellyFish can work on a manufactured home that has:

  1. An overhang deep enough to shelter the track.
  2. Fascia or trim that can hold fasteners without cracking.
  3. A dry, protected indoor location with an existing outlet for the controller, such as a utility room.
  4. Electrical in sound condition, confirmed by our test.

If yours doesn’t meet those, we’ll tell you honestly.

Soft, low-glare light

JellyFish’s accent presets start at a warm 2700K, and its HOA guidance describes a 21-lumen-or-lower setting. That means you can light the walk and the front door gently without glare in a neighbor’s window. Brightness can be turned down late at night. Spacing comes in 6, 9 or 16 inches. On a single-story house, 16 inches gives tidy accent points, and 9 inches gives the classic holiday look.

Coastal weather

According to the Weather Service, Helene raised coastal Pasco water levels by roughly 2 to 5 feet above MHHW in 2024, and Milton dropped 8 to 12 inches of rain across much of the county two weeks later. JellyFish stays tucked under the eave, and the controller stays inside. There’s nothing to take down before a storm, which is one less job when you’re getting ready.

Lighting for getting around safely

Good evening light at the entry isn’t just decorative. It makes the steps, the edge of the driveway and the walk easier to see when you get home after dark, carry groceries in, or answer the door to a visitor. With JellyFish, a gentle white can come on at sunset and stay on as long as you like, at whatever brightness is comfortable. There are no motion sensors to wave at and no switches to find in the dark. If you like, the back eave can light a path to a shed or the trash bins too. For many Hudson households, this everyday light is the real reason to install. The holiday colors are a bonus.

Two zones

On one zone, the whole house follows one scene. Two zones (front and back) is an extra KWLE option. For an added cost, KWLE can wire two zones, so the front and back can run different scenes, such as white over the back porch and a holiday show out front.

Questions to ask any installer

Whether you hire us or not, these questions help protect you:

  • Is the installer a licensed electrical contractor, and will a licensed person check the outlet the controller uses?
  • Will anything be fastened to the roof itself? (With us, the answer is no.)
  • Who does the work: employees or subcontractors?
  • What does the workmanship warranty cover, and for how long, compared with the manufacturer’s parts warranty?
  • Will someone show you, and anyone helping you, how to use the app before they leave?

Get every answer in writing, and keep it with your house papers. A reputable company won’t mind.

Warranty

JellyFish provides a 5-year parts warranty. KWLE provides a 2-year workmanship warranty on the installation, extended to 5 years with our Member Care Plan.

Permits

Hudson is unincorporated Pasco County. If the job needs a permit, KWLE pulls it on our license.

What to expect

We start with a free visit at a time that suits you. A family member is welcome to join, in person or by phone. We inspect, measure and test, then send a written proposal. Our own licensed employees do the install, with no subcontractors. Before we leave, we make sure whoever will use the app is comfortable with it.

Hudson FAQ

Can my son or daughter control the lights from out of state? Yes. App access can be shared with family.

Will you explain everything slowly? Yes. We go at your pace and leave written instructions for the app and your saved scenes.

Do I need to buy a smartphone? A tablet works too, or a family member can run it from their own phone.

Will the lights raise my electric bill much? They’re LEDs, and at accent brightness they use little power.

What if one light stops working? The redundant data line keeps the others on, and we replace it under warranty.

Is KWLE a woman-owned business? It is, and we leave it at that; we don’t claim a certification.
