What we offer

Solar

Rooftop solar designed and installed by our licensed partner installers, with the electrical side, from the panel to the interconnection wiring, handled by our electricians.

Battery backup

Home battery storage to keep essential circuits running when the grid goes down, installed by our licensed partners and connected to your home’s electrical system by us.

Energy monitoring

See where your power goes. A SPAN smart panel shows every circuit’s use alongside solar production and battery level, and lets you control circuits from your phone.

Panel & service upgrades

Many homes need a new panel or a bigger service before solar or a battery can be connected. We do that work ourselves, with the permit and utility coordination.

How the partnership works

Solar and battery systems touch two trades: the equipment install on the roof and at the battery location, and the electrical work that ties everything into your home and the utility. Many homeowners end up juggling a solar company, an electrician and sometimes a separate battery installer, each pointing at the other when something doesn’t line up.

We take that coordination off your plate. Keywest Lights & Electric is your contractor for the whole project. Our licensed partner installers, subcontracted to us, install the solar and battery equipment. Our electricians handle the electrical work: the load calculation, any panel or service upgrade, SPAN smart panel installation, and the interconnection wiring. We coordinate the schedule, the permits and inspections, and the utility steps, so you have one point of contact from the first site visit to the final walkthrough.

Already have solar or a battery?

A lot of Tampa Bay homes already have solar, and many added a battery after recent hurricane seasons. If that’s you, we can still help. A SPAN smart panel works with existing solar and batteries when the battery is on SPAN’s compatibility list, and it turns a fixed backup setup into one you control from the SPAN Home app: you choose which circuits get backup power during an outage, see estimated backup time, and see solar production next to every circuit. We’re a SPAN Authorized Installer with 20 SPAN installs completed.

If you have solar but no battery, or a battery that’s too small for your needs, we can look at adding storage through our licensed partners as part of a coordinated project, depending on the equipment you already have. If your panel is old, full or flagged by your insurer, we’ll address that too; see panel upgrades and service upgrades.

Why backup power matters here

Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024 left much of Pinellas County and Tampa Bay without power for days, and summer thunderstorms knock the grid out regularly. A battery keeps essentials running through those outages, and solar can recharge it when the sun comes back out. Pairing them with circuit-level monitoring and control helps the battery last longer, because you can keep large loads like pool equipment and extra AC systems off until the grid returns.

How a project works

  1. Site visit. We look at your roof, panel, meter and electrical service, any existing solar or battery equipment, and what you want the system to do.
  2. Itemized quote. You get an itemized quote after the site visit, with the equipment, the partner installation and our electrical work on separate lines. No prices over the phone.
  3. Permits and utility coordination. We coordinate permits, inspections and the utility steps for the project with Duke Energy, TECO or your utility.
  4. Installation. Our licensed partners install the solar and battery equipment; our electricians handle the panel, service, SPAN and interconnection wiring.
  5. Walkthrough. We walk you through the system and the monitoring app before we close out the project.

Warranty

Our 3-year workmanship warranty applies to the electrical work Keywest Lights & Electric performs, extended to 5 years for Member Care Plan members. Solar and battery equipment carries its manufacturer’s warranty, and the partner installer’s work carries their own warranty. We list those details with your quote so you know who covers what.

Financing available

Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Check your options without affecting your credit score. Ask us and we’ll include the financing link with your itemized quote.

Solar, battery & monitoring FAQ

Do your crews install the solar panels?

No. Solar panels and battery equipment are installed by our licensed partner installers, working as our subcontractors. Keywest Lights & Electric manages the project and handles the electrical work: panel and service upgrades, SPAN smart panels and the interconnection wiring. You have one point of contact from start to finish.

I already have solar. Can you add a battery or a SPAN panel?

Often, yes. We look at your existing solar system, inverter and panel first. A SPAN panel works with existing solar and batteries when the battery is on SPAN’s compatibility list, and a battery can usually be added to an existing system through our licensed partners, depending on the equipment you have.

What does energy monitoring show me?

It depends on the system. A SPAN smart panel shows live and historical use for every circuit, alongside solar production and battery level, and lets you switch circuits on or off from the SPAN Home app. We’ll explain the monitoring options that fit your home at the site visit.

Will a battery keep my whole house running in an outage?

It depends on the battery capacity and what you try to run. Large loads like central AC and pool equipment drain a battery quickly. Pairing a battery with a SPAN panel lets you choose which circuits get backup power and change that during an outage.

Do I need a panel or service upgrade for solar or a battery?

Sometimes. An older, full or undersized panel may need replacing before solar or battery equipment can be connected. We do a load calculation and look at your panel and meter at the site visit and tell you what’s required.

How much does solar, battery backup or monitoring cost?

It depends on system size, your roof and electrical service, the equipment and any panel or service work. We give an itemized quote after a site visit, with each part of the project on its own line. We don’t quote prices over the phone.

What warranty do I get?

Our 3-year workmanship warranty covers the electrical work Keywest Lights & Electric performs, extended to 5 years for Member Care Plan members. Solar and battery equipment is covered by its manufacturer’s warranty, and the partner installer’s work by their own warranty; we’ll list those details with your quote.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Financing is available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. You can check your options without affecting your credit score. Ask us and we’ll include the financing link with your itemized quote.
