Northdale is a residential community in unincorporated north Hillsborough County, home to about 25,700 people. Census figures describe a neighborhood of owners. Roughly 73% of occupied homes are owner-occupied, most homes are detached single-family houses, and the median home dates to 1986. Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE) installs JellyFish permanent lighting on homes like these. We’re a woman-owned, licensed electrical contractor, EC13014717, and an authorized JellyFish dealer. Measured as the crow flies, Northdale is 24.8 miles from our Seminole Blvd shop (6248 Seminole Blvd).

Five myths about permanent lights, and the facts

“They’ll be screwed into my roof.”

Not ours. KWLE mounts JellyFish track only under the soffit along the eaves, and up the gable rakes. Roof surfaces and ridges are off-limits; shingles and tile stay untouched.

“I’ll see an ugly track all year.”

The track is slim, is color-matched to your soffit, and sits back under the edge of the overhang. From the street in daylight, most people don’t notice it.

“It needs a new outdoor panel.”

No. A small controller hangs on your garage wall, plugged into an existing outlet there. Low-voltage cable runs up through the soffit to the lights. Because we’re electricians, we test the outlet and its circuit first. Problems get written up for you, with options.

“It’s only for Christmas.”

Permanent Christmas lights are why most people call. But the same lights do warm-white accent lighting every night, bright-white security lighting on a schedule, team colors on game day, and any color you want for birthdays and holidays. Each permanent holiday light scene lives in the app, ready to schedule.

“Front and back have to match.”

Yes. On one zone, every light follows the same scene. Two zones is an extra KWLE option that lets the street side and the backyard run different scenes.

Homes from the 1980s

With a median build year of 1986, many Northdale homes are around 40 years old. That’s old enough that the garage circuit has probably picked up more load over time: a second fridge, a freezer, a workbench, maybe an EV charger. The controller itself draws little power. It just needs a clean, protected outlet that isn’t already at its limit. We find the breaker, see what shares it, confirm ground-fault protection, and look at the receptacle. If it’s fine, we use it. If not, you’ll get options, and any repair is up to you.

We also look at the fascia and soffit. After four decades of Florida sun, some boards need attention. Track belongs on sound material, so we’ll flag any soft wood before we mount.

Designing for the house you have

Every house is laid out differently, so we plan each install from scratch. On the design visit we photograph each elevation and note:

  • Eave lengths and where downspouts, gutters and fixtures interrupt them.
  • Gable rakes worth tracing, usually over the garage and the entry.
  • Sightlines from the street and from the driveway at night.
  • Trees near the eaves that could block the view or brush the track.
  • The backyard: a pool cage, a lanai or a water view that might justify a second zone.

Three Northdale scenarios

The family with kids in school. Weeknights: warm white from dusk to 9 p.m. Fridays in the fall: school colors. December: a slow red-and-green chase, with a brighter “show” scene on weekends when relatives visit.

The empty-nesters. They wanted the look without the ladder. Steady warm white year-round, a classic white twinkle for December, and a security scene that turns the garage side to full white if they’re traveling.

The sports house. Bucs red and pewter on Sundays, Lightning blue on game nights, and a celebration scene saved for a playoff win. The holiday scenes come out in December like everyone else’s.

None of these needs more than one zone. The two-zone option only comes into play when the back of the house should do something different from the front.

Storm season

Northdale is inland, but Hurricane Milton showed in 2024 that inland Hillsborough still gets hit. Most of the county got 10 to 15 inches of rain from that storm, per the National Weather Service. JellyFish under the eave is shielded from the worst wind and rain, and the controller stays dry inside the garage. You don’t take anything down when a storm is forecast.

Townhomes and attached units

About 9% of Northdale’s housing units are single-family attached, according to the Census. If yours is one of them, the design stays within your own walls. We stop the track at your unit’s edge, give you your own controller on your own garage outlet, and set up your own app account. If your association maintains the building exterior, it has to approve before we schedule. When several owners in one building want lights, we can coordinate the look so the building reads as one design while each unit stays independent.

HOA and deed-restriction check

If your home is in a subdivision with an HOA or deed restrictions, look up the exterior lighting rules before you sign anything. Some associations limit animation, set holiday-display dates or require approval for permanent exterior changes. JellyFish’s schedules can follow the rules automatically, keeping steady white outside the approved dates. Expect from us photos, product details and a marked-up image of your house for the application.

Permits

Northdale is unincorporated, so Hillsborough County is the permitting authority. If your install needs a permit, we file it on our license and meet the inspector.

Warranty

  • JellyFish 5-year parts warranty on the track, lights and controller.
  • KWLE 2-year workmanship warranty on our installation, extended to five years on a Member Care Plan.

Northdale FAQ

Is Northdale in your service area? Yes. It’s 24.8 miles from our Seminole shop, and we serve Hillsborough County regularly.

Can I control it when I’m away? Yes. The app works from anywhere your phone has a connection, as long as the controller is online at home.

What if a light goes out? Call (727) 476-7079. Parts are covered by JellyFish for 5 years and our workmanship for 2 years, or 5 with Member Care.

Is KWLE woman-owned? Yes. We don’t claim any certification, just woman-owned.

Does the system work during a power outage? No. It runs on house power, and your schedules pick back up once the power returns.

Can I add a zone later? In many cases, yes. Ask during the design visit so the layout leaves room for it.
