Is a 1990s or 2000s house a good fit?
Yes, in most cases. Houses from that era tend to have continuous eaves, vented soffit panels and gable ends over the garage and entry, which are the surfaces JellyFish is designed for. These homes are also old enough that we check a few things before we start:
| What we check | Why |
|---|---|
| Soffit panels | Twenty-plus years of sun can make vinyl brittle at the edges. |
| Fascia and corners | Gutter overflow can soften wood where the track will start or turn. |
| Garage receptacle | It may be original, and it may share a circuit with a freezer or opener. |
| Wi-Fi in the garage | Stucco walls and distance from the router can weaken the signal. |
Anything we find goes in writing, with photos, before you commit.
Mounting: eaves and gables, nothing else
The track fastens beneath the soffit on each eave and carries on up the gable rakes, and that’s the whole of it. No rail on the roof or ridge cap, no holes in shingle or tile. The channel matches the soffit color and the lights stick out roughly a quarter inch.
Where the controller goes
A single controller mounts in the garage on an existing outlet, with a low-voltage cable up to the eave. We’re electricians, so that outlet gets tested properly: breaker, GFCI and whatever else rides the circuit. If a new receptacle makes more sense, we say so and quote it on its own line, and you decide.
Questions we’ll ask you
A good design comes from how you plan to use the lights, not just from measuring the eaves. On the visit, we’ll ask:
- Which view matters most to you: the street, the driveway as you pull in, or the back yard?
- Do you want the lights on every night, or mainly on holidays?
- Who else in the house will use the app?
- Are there neighbors’ windows the back lights might shine toward?
- Do you have repainting, re-roofing or gutter work coming up that should happen first?
The answers shape where the runs start and stop, which spacing we recommend, and whether two zones make sense. They also help us set a starting calendar, so the house does something sensible on the very first night.
Designing around a lake or a pool cage
If the back of your house faces water or a pool cage, the back eaves are worth thinking about. Soft warm white across the rear soffit lights the lanai and yard without glare, and the same lights can switch to color for parties. That’s where a second zone helps.
Zones
As one zone, the house shows a single scene. KWLE can add a second zone as an option so front and back run on their own, with a holiday show by the street and calm white out back.
What you control from the app
- Color and brightness for every light, with millions of colors.
- Whites from 2700K warm through 5000K cool.
- Motion such as chase, twinkle, fade and sparkle, at any speed.
- Calendars that start scenes at sunset and switch them by date.
- Saved scenes you can reuse every year.
Pick 6, 9 or 16 inches between lights. Two-story houses look even from the street at 6 or 9; a single-story house with a long front does well at 9.
The holidays, handled
For the holidays, permanent Christmas lights stop being a weekend project. You can pick a classic multicolor look, an all-white sparkle, or a red-and-green chase, and switch between them whenever you like. Your permanent holiday light presets for Halloween, Thanksgiving, the Fourth and the rest stay saved, so each year the house simply changes on schedule.
Storm notes
Milton brought Pasco County 8 to 12 inches of rain and peak gusts of 55 to 65 mph, per the National Weather Service summary. The hardware sits sheltered under the eave and the controller stays in the garage, so there’s no seasonal wiring to secure or strip before a storm.
HOA approval
Many neighborhoods have architectural review. Check your association’s exterior lighting and holiday display rules. JellyFish publishes HOA-friendly specs, including the low profile and a 21-lumen-or-lower setting. We’ll put together the product sheet and a marked-up photo of your house for your submission.
What goes into your HOA submission:
- Specifications from the manufacturer
- A track tint matched on site to soffit or fascia
- Your front elevation photo, light runs marked
- The indoor controller location and its outlet
- Florida license EC13014717 for KWLE
Approval rests with the association, and the packet supports the request.
Warranty
JellyFish: 5 years on lights and controller. KWLE on the install: 2 years, or 5 with Member Care.
Permits
Land O’ Lakes is unincorporated, so any permit is a county permit. KWLE pulls it under our license when the project requires one.

Found us with Christmas light installers? We cover Land O Lakes
Land O’ Lakes installs follow four steps: a photo preview, a site visit, the install and an app hand-off. Afterward one system covers Christmas, the Fourth and game nights, and a bright white scene can watch over the driveway while you are away.
Next to clip-on strands, the difference is the clean line along the trim. JellyFish lighting in Land O’ Lakes starts with a free mockup on a photo of your house, and the crew fastens the channel to the eave line once; it stays there every season after.

Where does the control box for Christmas light installation go?

Can we change scenes from anywhere? Yes, through the app, as long as the controller stays connected to your Wi-Fi.
What if one light goes out? The run has a redundant data line, so its neighbors stay lit until we swap the part under warranty.
Do the lights add much to the electric bill? They’re LEDs, and at accent brightness they draw little power.
Can we add lights later? We plan the layout so a future section, such as a new garage or addition, can be joined to the system.
Woman-owned company? Yes, the company is woman-owned.
Can permanent outdoor lighting be used for security? Yes. Set bright white on a schedule or switch it on from the app while you are away.

Yearly hanging service or one permanent install: how to decide?
How many years will you decorate? A hanging service costs two trips every season, one up and one down, plus storage for the strands. JellyFish is installed once with the track tucked under the eaves; after that, each holiday is a color and a schedule chosen in the app.
JellyFish Lighting is a trademark of its owner. Keywest Lights & Electric is an independent authorized dealer, apart from the manufacturer.
