Housing in Thonotosassa looks different from the rest of Hillsborough County. Census Bureau 2020–2024 estimates show 39.2% of homes are mobile or manufactured, close to the 47.5% that are detached site-built houses. It has 15,764 residents and a median age of 40.7; owners occupy 66.9% of homes, 13.8% were built in the 1970s and 15.7% from 2010 to 2019. Long-timers are here too: 10.4% of householders moved in during 1989 or earlier. Keywest Lights & Electric (KWLE), woman-owned and licensed as Florida electrical contractor EC13014717, installs JellyFish on both kinds of homes where the structure allows, from 6248 Seminole Blvd, 33.5 miles off in a straight line.

Two kinds of homes, two checklists

Because the housing here is so mixed, we start every Thonotosassa visit by working out which checklist applies.

Site-built houses

  • Continuous eaves with soffit panels we can fasten the track to.
  • Sound fascia, especially at corners and where gutters overflow.
  • Gable ends over the garage or porch, which are good for rake runs.
  • An attached garage with an existing outlet for the controller.

Manufactured homes

  • An overhang deep enough to hold the track out of direct rain. Some single-wides have very little.
  • Fascia or trim solid enough to take fasteners without cracking.
  • A dry, protected indoor location for the controller, such as a utility room, with an existing outlet.
  • Wiring and receptacles in good condition, which our electrician tests.

If a home isn’t a good fit, we’ll tell you on the visit. We’d rather lose a sale than install lights that won’t hold up.

Placement

Site-built or manufactured, the lights go under the soffit or overhang along the eaves and up the gable rakes. Never on the roof, and no track over shingles or metal roofing. The color-matched track stands out about a quarter inch, so in daylight little changes.

The controller and power

Everything runs from one controller. With a garage, it goes on a garage wall on an existing outlet, and a low-voltage cable carries data and power to the lights. We test the receptacle, the breaker and the GFCI and see what shares the circuit. On manufactured homes we take extra care with older receptacles and connections, and anything wrong is written up before the install.

Older homes and newer ones

With housing spanning decades, the visit varies a lot from one address to the next. On a house or manufactured home from the 1970s, we spend more time on the trim and the electrical: original receptacles, aluminum or painted-over fascia, and soffit that may have been replaced in sections. On a home built in the last ten years or so, the focus moves to planning. We work out where the controller fits among everything else in the garage, whether the Wi-Fi reaches it, and how to route the cable neatly. In both cases you get the same written report and the same choice about what to fix first. We don’t start mounting track until the base it goes on is sound and the outlet it plugs into has passed our tests.

Storm season, honestly

The National Weather Service’s Hillsborough County summary for Hurricane Milton, October 2024, notes mandatory evacuations for mobile and manufactured homes, 10 to 15 inches of rain over most of the county, and a record crest of 38.16 feet on the Hillsborough River at Morris Bridge. Lighting doesn’t change your storm plan, but it trims the to-do list: no seasonal strands to strip before you leave, nothing loose on the house, lights sheltered under the overhang and the controller indoors.

What JellyFish can do

Every light is an individually addressable color LED on a redundant data line, so one failed light doesn’t take down the run. From the app you can:

  • Run permanent Christmas lights each December, in multicolor, all white, or a red-and-green chase.
  • Save a permanent holiday light scene for each occasion, from Valentine’s Day to Halloween.
  • Use warm white (2700K) to cool white (5000K) as everyday accent and safety lighting along the drive and walk.
  • Schedule everything by sunset and by date.

Lights come in 6-, 9- or 16-inch spacing. On a manufactured home’s shorter overhang, 9 or 16 inches is the cleanest look.

Dark lots and long driveways

If your lot has few streetlights, a soft white outline does practical work. It shows the edges of the house, lights the steps and the path to the door, and helps visitors find you after dark. Set to a low brightness, it lights your own property without spilling far onto the neighbors’. On a long driveway, the house becomes a landmark you can see from the road. You might keep a dim warm-white scene on every night and save the color for the holidays.

Optional second zone

A single zone covers the house with one scene. For an added cost KWLE wires two zones, front and back, or a home and an attached workshop, each with its own scene.

Warranty

Lights and controller: JellyFish parts coverage for 5 years. Installation: KWLE, 2 years, or 5 with Member Care.

Permits

Thonotosassa is unincorporated Hillsborough County, so any permit for the job comes from the county. KWLE pulls it on our license and is on site for inspection.

How we work

Step one is a free visit: we sort out which checklist fits your home, measure, and test the outlet and Wi-Fi. A written proposal follows. KWLE’s licensed electricians install it, never subcontractors, and we finish by pairing the app and programming your scenes.

Searching permanent Christmas lights in Thonotosassa?

We measure every eave run before quoting, so the spacing comes out even on eaves and gable rakes. On a rural lot a bright white scene can light the driveway while you’re away, and the rest of the year the same lights do holidays and game nights.

When the crew arrives in Thonotosassa, the design is already sketched from your photo. Nothing comes down in spring; after New Year’s the lights just shift to a softer scene. Power comes from the garage outlet already on the wall and nothing else.

Thonotosassa FAQ

Who are the Christmas light installers near me that serve Thonotosassa?

Begin with the free photo mockup here; then we come out to measure and set up the phone app.

How long does permanent lights on house fascia take in Thonotosassa?

Plan on one install day for JellyFish Lighting at a typical Thonotosassa address once the design mockup and measure visit are done.

Can JellyFish go on a mobile home? Yes, if there’s enough overhang, solid trim and a dry spot near an existing outlet for the controller. We’ll confirm on site.

What about a metal roof? We don’t mount anything on the roof itself. The track goes under the eave.

How do I change colors? From the JellyFish app on your phone, or let the calendar do it.

Does it need strong Wi-Fi? The controller needs a steady connection for app control. We test the signal where it will mount.

Will the lights bother my neighbors? We aim them along your own eaves, and brightness is adjustable, so a low evening setting stays on your property.

Are you a woman-owned contractor? Yes, we are a woman-owned company.

What separates permanent lights from a seasonal installer’s strands?

Count the seasons you plan to decorate. Hiring a crew means two trips a year, up and down, and somewhere to keep the strands. JellyFish goes in once, tucked under the eaves, and every holiday after that is a color and a schedule picked in the app.

The JellyFish Lighting trademark is its owner’s. KWLE installs the product as an independent authorized dealer, not as the manufacturer.
