SPAN Smart Panel Installation in Town ‘n’ Country, FL

Across the Courtney Campbell from Pinellas, Town ‘n’ Country is mostly 1960s–80s block houses, many with the panel bolted to an outside wall, plus canal homes in Bay Port Colony facing Old Tampa Bay. When a panel like that has to go, because it’s rusted, full or a brand insurers won’t accept, a SPAN Panel can take its place and add circuit-level control for EV charging, pool equipment and battery backup. Keywest Lights & Electric (EC#13014717) is a SPAN Authorized Installer with 20 SPAN installs, about 18 miles away in Seminole, and we book Town ‘n’ Country jobs as planned projects.

Call (727) 476-7079 or request a SPAN consultation. Office 7 AM–5 PM; weekend appointments available.

The exterior-panel neighborhoods

Town ‘n’ Country’s median home dates to 1984 (Census ACS 2020–2024), and the original neighborhoods are considerably older. On those streets the panel commonly hangs outside next to the meter, with a corroded enclosure, doubled-up breakers and sometimes Federal Pacific or Zinsco internals. A SPAN Panel is NEMA 3R rated, so it can take the same outdoor location after we confirm clearances, grounding and the condition of the service conductors. If the panel is the only problem, a standard panel upgrade in Town ‘n’ Country also solves it. SPAN is the choice when you want more than a new box.

What “more” means here

  • Seeing the load. The SPAN Home app shows usage per circuit, live and over time: the pool pump, the AC, the converted-garage mini-split.
  • Switching from anywhere. Turn off circuits from your phone, whether it’s a workshop, a rental unit or holiday lights.
  • Fitting an EV in. With SPAN PowerUp™, charging slows when the rest of the house peaks, so a 150- or 200-amp TECO service may not need an upgrade.^ When it still does, we price a Town ‘n’ Country service upgrade separately. Charger details: EV chargers in Town ‘n’ Country.
  • Running an outage. With a compatible battery, you pick which circuits stay powered.

Standard 1-inch breakers, over-the-air updates, and a second panel if the house needs more than 48 circuits or more than 200 amps.

Bay Port Colony and the waterfront

Canal-front homes in Bay Port Colony and along Old Tampa Bay add dock circuits, boat lifts and pool equipment, and they take more salt exposure. Low-lying waterfront parcels can be in FEMA flood zones; if the work counts as a substantial improvement, Hillsborough County may require electrical equipment at or above a set elevation. We review the flood designation before we quote.

Battery, solar and generator setups

  • Compatible batteries: Tesla Powerwall 3 and FranklinWH aPower with any SPAN model; Powerwall 2, SolarEdge and Enphase IQ Battery 5P/10T with the SPAN Panel MAIN 32. SPAN estimates backup hours, and per SPAN, managing priorities can extend battery life by 40%.* Backup Overload Protection (NEC 2023 Article 702.4) helps prevent overload shutdowns.
  • Solar: installed by our licensed partner installers. We do the electrical work, including the SPAN Panel and interconnection, and manage the project. See solar, battery backup & energy monitoring.
  • Standby generator: connects ahead of SPAN through a listed transfer switch. No interlocks inside the SPAN Panel; generator power appears as grid power in the app; without a battery, load control is manual.

Mailing address says Tampa, permit says county

Most Town ‘n’ Country addresses read “Tampa,” but the area is unincorporated, so the permit is issued by Hillsborough County Development Services through HillsGovHub, not the City of Tampa. TECO provides power; we handle the meter disconnect request, and TECO reconnects once the county signs off. Condo and villa owners: the unit panel is usually yours, but the meter bank belongs to the association, so we confirm before quoting.

Just past our response radius

At about 18 miles, Town ‘n’ Country is a little beyond the ~15-mile area where we take small jobs and urgent calls. We schedule SPAN and panel projects here on set dates, don’t promise response times, and don’t offer emergency service in Town ‘n’ Country; our emergency electrician service covers Pinellas addresses near our shop. Shops along Hillsborough Avenue and Memorial Highway: commercial electrical service.

Our sequence

  1. Phone call and panel photos.
  2. Site visit with load calculation.
  3. An itemized quote after the site visit.
  4. HillsGovHub permit and TECO request.
  5. Install, commissioning and whole-house surge protection.
  6. County inspection and an app walkthrough.
