SPAN Smart Panel Installation in Carrollwood, FL

Keywest Lights & Electric is a SPAN Authorized Installer with 20 SPAN installs completed. We install SPAN Panels in Carrollwood homes: 1970s–80s houses around Lake Carroll and Carrollwood Village, later subdivisions toward Northdale, and light-commercial spaces along Dale Mabry Highway and Fletcher Avenue where the panel has run out of room for EVs, pool equipment, a generator or a battery. Carrollwood is TECO territory about 23 miles from our Seminole shop, so SPAN work here is a scheduled, planned panel replacement — not a same-day drop-in from Pinellas. Licensed (EC#13014717).

Call (727) 476-7079 or request a SPAN consultation. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service, 24/7 emergency calls.

What SPAN does for a Carrollwood home

A SPAN Panel replaces your existing electrical panel with one you can see and control from your phone. Every circuit is measured and switchable in the SPAN Home app, so you can see what’s using power right now, turn circuits off from anywhere, and get free over-the-air software updates. It uses standard 1-inch breakers and is NEMA 3R rated for indoor or outdoor installation.

In Carrollwood we see three kinds of SPAN projects:

  1. Homes adding an EV charger, heat pump, pool heater or induction range. On a 100- to 200-amp TECO service, SPAN PowerUp™ can manage EV charging so the house stays within its service rating, which can sometimes avoid a utility service upgrade.^
  2. Homes that need a new panel anyway. If your panel is old, full, rusted or a brand insurers flag (Federal Pacific, Zinsco), SPAN is the smarter panel upgrade in Carrollwood: you’re replacing the panel either way, and you get monitoring and control in the bargain.
  3. Homes planning solar and a battery. SPAN lets you choose which circuits get backup power during an outage, change those priorities as the outage goes on, and see how much backup time is left. SPAN says it extends battery life by 40% during an outage.*

Carrollwood neighborhoods and their panels

Carrollwood has about 36,700 residents, and the median home was built in 1984 (Census ACS 2020–2024). The SPAN conversation splits along the housing:

  • 1970s–80s homes around Lake Carroll and in Carrollwood Village, where the panel is often on an outside wall, crowded, corroded, or Federal Pacific / Zinsco-era equipment that 4-point inspectors and insurers flag. These panels usually need replacing regardless. We assess the TECO service and grounding first, and SPAN goes in as the new panel.
  • Later subdivisions toward Northdale and the Lutz edge with 150- or 200-amp services that look fine until a remodeled kitchen, pool equipment or a Level 2 EV charger asks for breakers and load management that aren’t there.
  • Lakefront and pool homes around Lake Carroll, where outdoor equipment fights humidity and where dock or boat-lift circuits add load. SPAN’s NEMA 3R rating helps outdoors.
  • Condos and villas where the unit panel is the owner’s and the meter bank belongs to the association — we confirm ownership and board rules first.
  • Shops and offices along Dale Mabry and Fletcher that want circuit-level visibility and remote shutoff for a tenant build-out. See commercial electrical service.

Larger homes with more than 48 circuits or a service over 200 amps may need more than one SPAN Panel. We size it at the site visit.

SPAN with solar and battery backup

SPAN works with a home’s existing solar and battery system when the battery is on SPAN’s compatibility list. Tesla Powerwall 3 and FranklinWH aPower work with every SPAN Panel model. Powerwall 2, SolarEdge, and Enphase IQ Battery 5P and 10T work with the SPAN Panel MAIN 32. SPAN’s Backup Overload Protection (NEC 2023 Article 702.4) helps prevent brownouts and the service calls that come with battery resets. We confirm your inverter, battery and gateway before we quote.

Don’t have solar or a battery yet? We can add solar, battery backup and energy monitoring through our licensed partner installers as one coordinated project. Our partners install the solar and battery equipment; Keywest Lights & Electric manages the project and handles the electrical work, including the SPAN Panel and interconnection wiring. SPAN with a standby generator

Plenty of Carrollwood homes added a standby generator after recent hurricane seasons. SPAN can work with one, but you should know the limits before you buy:

  • The generator connects upstream of SPAN through a listed transfer switch. Generator output never lands in the SPAN Panel, and portable-generator interlocks can’t be installed in it.
  • SPAN doesn’t communicate with the generator, so generator power shows as grid power in the app.
  • Generator only, no battery: there’s no automatic load shedding. You turn non-essential circuits off by hand in the app, which is still far easier than flipping breakers in a dark garage.
  • Generator as part of a compatible battery system: you get SPAN’s full battery outage experience.

Permits and TECO in Carrollwood

Carrollwood is unincorporated, so electrical permits come from Hillsborough County Development Services through the county’s HillsGovHub portal — not the City of Tampa, even though many addresses here say “Tampa.” We pull the permit and meet the inspector.

Utility: TECO (Tampa Electric). When the meter can has to be pulled or service equipment changes, we coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with TECO. Meter sockets and service standards follow Tampa Electric’s process — different from the Duke Energy work we do on the Pinellas side.

If a load calculation shows the existing service is short even with SPAN PowerUp, a Carrollwood service upgrade goes on its own line of the quote.

HOAs: Carrollwood Village and many subdivisions have architectural review. A garage or indoor panel replacement rarely needs approval. Exterior equipment changes may. We provide specs and a photo of the planned location if your association asks.

Distance and how we schedule Carrollwood SPAN work

Our shop is at 6248 Seminole Blvd, Seminole, FL 33772. Central Carrollwood is about 23 miles away, outside our ~15-mile emergency and small-job response area, so it’s Tier 3: planned, high-ticket work only. We schedule the consultation, site visit and install day; we do not promise a response time from Pinellas, and we don’t take small service calls this far out as a drop-in. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service available; emergency calls are answered 24/7, and we’ll be honest about whether we’re the right call from Seminole.

How a SPAN install works

  1. Consultation call. Tell us about your home, panel, solar, battery, generator, EV plans and any HOA rules.
  2. Site visit and load calculation. We look at the panel, meter, grounding, and any solar, battery or generator equipment.
  3. Itemized quote after the site visit. Every part of the job is on its own line. We don’t quote SPAN prices over the phone.
  4. Hillsborough County permit and TECO coordination when needed.
  5. Install and commissioning. Most SPAN installs take about a day. We commission the panel, connect it to your existing system, and add whole-house surge protection.
  6. Inspection and app walkthrough. We meet the inspector and show you how backup priorities work in the SPAN Home app.

Warranty and financing

  • 3-year workmanship warranty on our electrical work, extended to 5 years for Member Care Plan members. That’s separate from SPAN’s own 10-year limited panel warranty, which requires installation by SPAN or a SPAN Authorized Installer.
  • Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Check your options without affecting your credit score. Ask us and we’ll include the financing link with your itemized quote.
  • Hours: office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service, and 24/7 emergency calls.

Carrollwood SPAN FAQ

Are you a SPAN Authorized Installer? Yes. Keywest Lights & Electric is a SPAN Authorized Installer, with 20 SPAN installs completed. We’re licensed (EC#13014717) and have done electrical work in the Tampa Bay area since 2010.

How much does a SPAN Panel cost in Carrollwood? It depends on the SPAN model, your current panel and service, any code corrections, the Hillsborough County permit, and add-ons. We give an itemized quote after a site visit so you see every line before you decide.

My 1980s Carrollwood home has a Federal Pacific panel. Is SPAN a good fit? Often yes — you’re replacing that panel either way. We assess the TECO service and grounding first, then install SPAN as the new panel if the load calculation and site conditions support it. See also Federal Pacific & Zinsco replacement.

Can SPAN help me add an EV charger without a service upgrade? Sometimes. SPAN PowerUp can manage EV charging to keep your home within its service rating. It requires qualification and enrollment, and we’ll tell you after the load calculation whether it fits your home.^ See also EV chargers in Carrollwood.

Does SPAN work with my generator? Yes, through a listed transfer switch upstream of the panel. Without a compatible battery, circuit control on generator power is manual in the app.

Do you also install SPAN in Town ‘n’ Country? Yes. See SPAN in Town ‘n’ Country. That page is our other nearby Hillsborough SPAN area; this one is specifically for Carrollwood addresses. SPAN in Westchase is also close by.
