Land O’ Lakes has two very different kinds of homes. Around the lakes there are established houses, some on bigger lots with detached garages, workshops or long driveways. Along SR 54 and US 41 there are newer planned communities with attached two- and three-car garages. The median home dates from 1999, but your EV charger plan depends far more on which of those two groups you’re in. Land O’ Lakes is about 33 miles from our Seminole shop, so we schedule installs here as planned projects. Licensed electrical contractor EC13014717, 6248 Seminole Blvd, Seminole FL 33772.

Established lake homes and larger lots
Homes around Lake Padgett Estates and other lakefront streets often date from the 1970s through the ’90s. What we tend to find: – 150- or 200-amp service, sometimes with a panel that has been added onto over the years. – Detached garages, carports or workshops, where charging means a feeder or a long dedicated circuit, sometimes with trenching across the yard. – Well pumps and pool equipment that add to the electrical load and have to be counted in the load calculation.
When the panel or service can’t take another 40- to 60-amp circuit, we quote a Land O’ Lakes panel upgrade or a Land O’ Lakes service upgrade as separate line items.
Newer communities
Connerton, Oakstead and Ballantrae are mostly 2000s and newer homes with 200-amp service and garage-mounted panels. Here the install is usually straightforward. The questions are about two-car charging and HOA rules: – A charger inside the garage isn’t visible from the street, so Florida’s HOA statute generally lets you install it without architectural approval. – Exterior chargers or driveway pedestals may need approval first. We supply the spec sheet and a site sketch. – For two EVs or a busy panel, a SPAN smart panel in Land O’ Lakes or a pair of power-sharing chargers avoids a service upgrade. We’re a SPAN Authorized Installer. Many Wesley Chapel homes use the same approach; see SPAN in Wesley Chapel.
Three possible utilities
Land O’ Lakes is split between Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC), Duke Energy Florida and Tampa Electric (TECO), depending on the street. That matters for incentives: – Duke customers may qualify for the EV Charger Prep Credit (make-ready wiring) and the Off-Peak Charging Credit. – TECO customers can look at Energy Planner time-of-use pricing or Prime Time Plus for hardwired Level 2 chargers. – WREC doesn’t currently advertise a residential EV program, so we simply schedule charging for overnight hours.
Check your bill header and the utility’s website for current terms. We’ll confirm the utility on the site visit.
Pasco County permit
Land O’ Lakes is unincorporated Pasco County. EV charger permits are filed through PascoGateway with Pasco County Building Construction Services, typically with a site plan, a one-line diagram, the charger spec sheet and a load calculation. We prepare and submit it, then handle the inspection.
Commute and charging speed
Many Land O’ Lakes drivers take the Suncoast Parkway or the Veterans Expressway south to Tampa, or US 41 and SR 54 across Pasco. That’s a long round trip for some, but a 48-amp charger on a 60-amp circuit adds plenty of range overnight. For most drivers, a 32-amp unit on a 40-amp circuit is enough. We size the circuit at 125% of the charger’s rating, the code rule for continuous loads.
Farm, shop and business charging
For businesses along US 41 and SR 54, or owners who want charging at a separate shop building, see our commercial electrician services.
