Electrical Panel Upgrades in Land O’ Lakes, FL

In Land O’ Lakes, the first question on a panel job is often “who’s your power company?” Depending on the street, it’s WREC, Duke Energy Florida or TECO, and the boundaries don’t follow the community’s map lines. The second question is how old the house is. The median Land O’ Lakes home was built in 1999, so a lot of original panels are now 25 to 35 years old, the point where insurers start asking questions and new loads stop fitting. We plan these as scheduled jobs from our Seminole shop, with the Pasco County permit and utility coordination included.

Call (727) 476-7079 or request a panel visit. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend appointments available.

Check your bill first: WREC, Duke or TECO

Your utility affects scheduling, because the meter can’t be pulled until that company does the disconnect and reconnect. Many neighborhoods along SR 54 and US 41, including Connerton, are served by Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC). Other streets are Duke Energy Florida or TECO. Send us a photo of your bill and we’ll coordinate with the right one.

What Land O’ Lakes houses need

About 38,900 people live in Land O’ Lakes (Census ACS 2020–2024). The panels we see split along housing age:

  • 1990s pool homes off US 41 and SR 54, with original panels full of tandem breakers after a pool heater, second AC or remodel
  • Connerton and other 2000s–2020s villages, where the builder panel is modern but out of spaces after an outdoor kitchen, a generator or an EV circuit
  • Older lakefront homes around Lake Padgett and Lake Saxon, with outdoor panels rusting in the humidity and sometimes aluminum branch wiring to address at the same time
  • Acreage to the east and north, where the service may still be 100 or 150 amps and the panel hangs outside
  • SR 54 shops and offices that need clean gear before a tenant change. See commercial service and build-outs.

Lakes, pools and generators

Around the chain of lakes, dock circuits, boat lifts and pool equipment are common, and many homes added a generator after Milton. A new panel is the moment to lay those circuits out cleanly and plan the generator inlet and interlock or transfer switch. See generator installation.

New panel or more service?

  • A panel upgrade swaps the box and breakers. The incoming power stays the same.
  • A service upgrade raises incoming power, usually to 200 amps, with a new meter can, service entrance and main, plus the utility disconnect and reconnect. Older lakefront and acreage homes often need this.

We run a load calculation and tell you which one fits. For circuit-level control, solar or battery integration, a SPAN smart panel in Land O’ Lakes can replace a standard panel. We’re a SPAN Authorized Installer with 20 SPAN installs. Solar and batteries are installed by licensed partner installers.

Permits and HOAs

Land O’ Lakes is unincorporated Pasco County, so there’s no city building department. Permits come from Pasco County Building Construction Services through the PascoGateway portal. We pull the permit and meet the inspector. Connerton and many newer villages have HOA or CDD architectural review. An indoor or garage panel swap rarely needs approval, but exterior changes may, and we’ll provide specs if asked.

Distance and scheduling

Our shop is at 6248 Seminole Blvd, Seminole, FL 33772, about 33 miles away in a straight line and farther by road. That’s well outside our roughly 15-mile area for emergencies and small jobs, so Land O’ Lakes panel work is planned: a site visit, an itemized quote and an install day. We don’t offer emergency service in Land O’ Lakes: our emergency electrician service covers Pinellas homes near Seminole. If something is sparking or smoking right now, call a Pasco County electrician, or 911 if there’s fire.

Signs your panel is due

  1. Warmth or buzzing at the cover, a breaker or the meter can
  2. Breakers trip when the AC, pool pump and dryer run together
  3. No open slots, and tandems everywhere
  4. Rust on an outdoor panel, especially near the lakes
  5. A 4-point inspection or buyer’s inspection write-up
  6. A Federal Pacific, Zinsco or other flagged brand. See FPE & Zinsco replacement.

The process

Walk-through of the panel, meter, grounding, bonding and any aluminum terminations. Itemized quote, never a phone price. Permit and utility scheduling, handled by us. Install day: a straight swap is usually one day, with every circuit labeled on a printed directory. Surge protection is required by Florida’s adopted code when service equipment is replaced. See whole-house surge protection. Inspection: we schedule it and meet the inspector. Compare our Good and Best panel options.

Warranty and financing

3-year workmanship warranty, or 5 years for Member Care Plan members. Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Check your options without affecting your credit score.

Land O’ Lakes panel upgrade FAQ

How do I know if I’m on WREC, Duke or TECO? Check your electric bill. Boundaries don’t follow neighborhood lines, so even nearby streets can differ.

Is my 1999 panel too old? Not automatically. If it’s full, warm, flagged by an insurer or can’t take the loads you’re adding, it’s worth replacing. We’ll tell you honestly.

Who issues the permit? Pasco County, through PascoGateway. Land O’ Lakes has no city building department.

Do you need HOA approval in Connerton? Usually not for an indoor or garage swap. Exterior changes may need it.

How much does it cost? It depends on the panel, the service and any code corrections. You get an itemized quote after the site visit.

Can you handle my dock and pool circuits at the same time? Yes. We lay them out cleanly in the new panel or a dedicated subpanel.
