Electrical Service Upgrades in Land O’ Lakes, FL

The name isn’t marketing: Land O’ Lakes has more than two square miles of lakes inside its census boundary, and plenty of houses sit on one. Lakefront docks and pumps, acreage with barns and wells, and big newer homes in Connerton all ask different things of an electrical service. Keywest Lights & Electric (EC#13014717) upgrades Land O’ Lakes services as planned projects from our shop in Seminole, about 33 miles away, with the Pasco County permit and the utility coordination included.

Call (727) 476-7079 or request a service upgrade assessment. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend appointments available.

Three kinds of Land O’ Lakes property

Land O’ Lakes has about 38,900 residents, and the median home was built in 1999 (Census ACS 2020–2024). Census counts grew from about 7,900 in 1990 to about 32,000 in 2010, which is why the housing stock splits into distinct groups:

Lakefront homes. Older houses on the lakes around Lake Padgett and along Collier Parkway often started on 100- or 150-amp service. Since then they’ve added dock lights, boat lifts, irrigation pumps and a pool, and the meter can has spent decades in humid lakeside air.

Acreage and rural parcels. Off US 41 (Land O’ Lakes Boulevard) and the county roads to the north, properties may have a well pump, a detached garage or shop, a barn subpanel and an overhead drop with a weathered mast. Long feeder runs and multiple buildings make the load calculation more involved.

Newer master-planned villages. Connerton and the subdivisions along SR 54 mostly came with 200-amp underground service. Owners adding two EVs, a spa, a generator and a second AC sometimes need 320- or 400-amp class service, or careful load management instead.

Who’s your utility?

Land O’ Lakes is split among three providers: the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC), which has a Land O’ Lakes/Odessa office, Duke Energy Florida and Tampa Electric (TECO). Each sets its own meter and service standards and schedules its own disconnects and reconnects. Your bill tells us which one to call; we handle the coordination.

Pasco County permitting

There’s no city government here; Land O’ Lakes is unincorporated. Service changes go to Pasco County Building Construction Services as electrical trade permits through PascoGateway. For anything beyond an equal change-out, the county wants load calculations and a riser diagram, which we prepare and upload with the application.

Options, smallest to largest

  • Panel only. If the amperage is fine and the panel is the issue, see panel upgrades in Land O’ Lakes.
  • Load management. A load-managed EV charger, or a SPAN smart panel in Land O’ Lakes with SPAN PowerUp™, can pause or slow big loads to stay within the existing rating and can sometimes avoid a utility service upgrade.^ Neighbors east of I-75 can see SPAN in Wesley Chapel.
  • Service upgrade. Meter socket or meter/main to your utility’s spec, service-entrance conductors, main disconnect, grounding and bonding, a new panel (Good ABB or Best Siemens), and whole-house surge protection, which the electrical code adopted in Florida requires when dwelling service equipment is replaced (surge protection).

On acreage, a standby generator is a common add-on. If that’s in the plan, we size the transfer switch along with the service. See generator installation and hookups. Charging an EV? See EV chargers in Land O’ Lakes.

HOA villages

Connerton and similar communities have architectural review for some exterior changes. Most meter and panel swaps don’t change the look of the house, but we’ll supply specs and photos if the HOA asks.

SR 54 commercial

Retail, medical and office tenants along SR 54 and US 41 turn over often. When new equipment outgrows the service, we assess the existing gear, coordinate with your engineer or GC, and handle the county permit. See commercial electrical service.

Order of work

  1. Site visit: meter, panel, drop or lateral, outbuildings, grounding, plans.
  2. Load calculation and an itemized quote after the site visit.
  3. PascoGateway permit; utility request to WREC, Duke or TECO.
  4. Install day, power off for part of the day (longer with multiple buildings).
  5. County inspection, utility reconnect, labeled circuit directory.

Warranty and financing

3 years of workmanship coverage, or 5 years for Member Care Plan members. Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval; you can check your options without affecting your credit score. Office hours are 7 AM–5 PM, weekend appointments available.

We’ve been a woman-owned, family-run electrical contractor since 2010, a Home Depot preferred contractor, bondable to $1M with projects up to $2M. Solar and battery systems are installed by our licensed partner installers; we handle the electrical work and manage the project.

Land O’ Lakes service upgrade FAQ

How much does a service upgrade cost in Land O’ Lakes? It depends on service size, utility requirements, outbuildings and feeder lengths, the panel and the permit. You get an itemized quote after a site visit.

My home already has 200 amps. Do I need 400? Not necessarily. Load management may cover a new EV or spa. If the calculation says the house really needs more, we’ll show you why.

My barn and shop run off the house. Is that a problem? Not a problem, just part of the design. We include every outbuilding feeder in the load calculation and check grounding at each building.

Who issues the permit? Pasco County Building Construction Services through PascoGateway.

Do you also upgrade service in Wesley Chapel? Yes. See service upgrades in Wesley Chapel and East Lake.
