We answer electrical emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for Treasure Island homes, condos, docks and businesses, from Sunset Beach to the Isle of Capri. Before
AfterA dock job in nearby St. Petersburg: boat-lift wiring with an open box (left), then new boxes with the conduit neatly strapped (right).
Safety first: If there’s smoke or fire, or someone has been shocked, call 911 first. If you can reach the main breaker safely and you’re standing somewhere dry, turn it off. Keep away from water near outlets, the panel, dock boxes and pool equipment, and from any downed line. Then call us.
What counts as an electrical emergency on the island
Call any hour for:
- A hot, buzzing or burning-smelling panel, outlet, switch or fixture
- Sparks or arcing at an outlet, a breaker or an exterior box
- A breaker that won’t stay on, or a main that keeps tripping
- Half the house dark, or lights that flare bright and dim, which can mean a lost neutral at the meter or service
- Water in or around the panel, meter or outlets after a storm, a king tide or a plumbing leak
- A dock, boat-lift or seawall light circuit that trips, sparks or was submerged
- Pool or spa equipment that shocks, trips or smells hot
- A hotel, motel, bar or restaurant on Gulf Boulevard with dead equipment, a dark dining room or rooms without power
Neighbors dark too? That’s probably a Duke Energy outage. Report it in the Duke Energy app or at duke-energy.com. If it’s only your home, your unit or part of your building, call us.
Why Treasure Island calls look different
Treasure Island has about 6,600 residents, and its median home was built in 1970 (Census ACS 2020–2024). The city notes that every site on the island is in a flood hazard area and a wind-borne debris region. That combination shapes the calls we get:
- Salt-damaged equipment. Panels, breakers and lugs that sat in saltwater during Helene in 2024 can keep corroding after they’re put back in service, and some fail months later.
- Dock and lift circuits on the bay-side isles, where boxes, wiring and GFCI protection take constant spray and sun.
- Pre-1974 homes with original or second-generation panels, including the Federal Pacific and Zinsco units inspectors flag.
- Condo buildings where it isn’t obvious at 11 PM whether the problem is in the unit or the building’s equipment.
Once the emergency is handled, we’ll tell you honestly whether a Treasure Island panel upgrade belongs on your list, and quote it later in daylight.
Docks and boat lifts
A lift that won’t run the morning you want to go out isn’t an emergency. A dock box that’s sparking, a lift motor that trips the breaker every time, or a GFCI that won’t reset while the boat hangs in the slings may be. We make it safe first, trace the fault, and repair what we can on the spot. If the dock wiring needs a proper rebuild, we quote it separately and handle the city’s permit paperwork, which for lifts includes the manufacturer’s cut sheet, the wiring chart and a site plan of the dedicated GFCI circuit. In nearby St. Petersburg, we replaced weathered dock boxes and loose lift wiring with new weatherproof boxes and strapped conduit. See the dock project →
Hotels, restaurants and condos
For Gulf Boulevard hotels, motels, bars and restaurants, we handle tripped or failed circuits, overheating panels in back-of-house rooms, kitchen equipment circuits, and exterior and pool lighting failures. We’ll get you running where it’s safe to do so and quote bigger repairs separately. We know the island’s commercial buildings; we did a complete electrical gut and remodel at American Legion Post 158 here in Treasure Island. See commercial electrical service.
Condo owners: problems inside your unit are generally yours to fix, while meter banks, feeders and common electrical rooms belong to the association. Tell us what you know and we’ll coordinate with the manager.
After a hurricane: getting back on and getting power back
- Have your re-entry hangtag before the season starts. After a mandatory evacuation, the barrier islands use the free Barrier Island Re-Entry Permit through the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, available online or at the City Hall customer service desk. Getting it in advance saves a lot of trouble later.
- Access is set storm by storm. After Helene in 2024, the city let contractors with valid work orders onto the island once it reopened, while Sunset Beach stayed foot-access only for a time. We can’t reach your home before officials allow it, but we’ll take your call, help you plan and schedule you as soon as access opens.
- Leave flooded equipment off. Anything that was in saltwater, including panels, breakers, outlets and appliances, usually needs replacing.
- Permits and reconnection. Treasure Island requires a permit for electrical service restoration or replacement, and after a declared emergency it lists electrical service reconnections among its expedited review categories. Before the city releases a home to Duke Energy for reconnection, the licensed contractor and the owner complete the city’s Building Structure Adequacy & Safety for Service Affidavit. We handle that paperwork with the repair.
- Rebuilding. If the home was badly damaged, permanent equipment generally has to meet the design flood elevation (base flood elevation plus 2 feet). We’ll make things safe now and check the elevation rules before quoting the permanent fix.
- Running a portable generator? Use extension cords or a properly installed inlet and interlock, never a homemade cord into a dryer outlet. Back-feeding can energize the lines outside and kill a lineworker. See generator installation and hookups.
What happens when you call
- A real person picks up. We ask what’s happening, whether anyone is at risk, and whether it’s a house, a condo unit, a dock or a business, then walk you through staying safe and give you an honest arrival estimate.
- You hear the after-hours rate before we dispatch. No surprises on the invoice.
- We find the cause, make it safe and fix what can be fixed that visit. If a permit is needed, we file it with the City of Treasure Island Building Division at City Hall, 10451 Gulf Blvd.
- Larger repairs get an itemized quote after the site visit.
Hours: emergency calls 24/7. Office 7 AM–5 PM, with weekend service for non-emergency work.
Can it wait until morning?
Some problems are annoying but not dangerous: a lift that just won’t run, one outlet that quit, a porch light that flickers in the wind. Those can usually wait for a scheduled visit at our regular rate. Tell us what you’re seeing and we’ll say honestly whether it can wait. See outlet repair and installation.
Storm-season electrical prep
Pinellas still sees tropical weather into fall. Before you book planned work, a few accurate notes:
- Standby generators connect through a listed transfer switch ahead of the panel. Portable units need a listed interlock or inlet – not a dryer outlet.
- Panel-mounted surge protection protects HVAC and electronics from utility spikes; Florida’s code requires it when service equipment is replaced. Details: whole-house surge protection.
- If water reached the meter can or panel, arrange an inspection before restoring power. We answer emergency calls around the clock without promising arrival windows.
- Generator and service upgrades need permits – see also generator installation and hookups.
Warranty, membership and financing
- 3-year workmanship warranty, extended to 5 years for Member Care Plan members. Members also get 7% off labor, including after-hours labor.
- Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval for larger repairs like a panel or service replacement. Check your options without affecting your credit score. Ask us and we’ll include the financing link with your itemized quote.
