In Dunedin, outlet problems depend on where you live. Near downtown, older bungalows have two-prong outlets that an insurance inspector wants grounded or GFCI-protected. Along St. Joseph Sound, salt air and sideways summer rain kill outdoor and dock GFCIs. Main Street kitchens and taprooms need dedicated 240-volt circuits matched to the equipment. Whether it’s one dead outlet or a full set of new circuits, we fix it properly. Licensed (EC#13014717), local since 2010, and no job too small.

Older homes near downtown
Dunedin has about 36,100 residents, and its median home was built in 1976 (Census ACS 2020–2024). In the older bungalows and mid-century homes close to downtown, we usually see:
- Two-prong, ungrounded outlets, and three-prong outlets with no ground behind them, which is a common 4-point write-up. We either run a proper ground or install GFCI protection with the correct “no equipment ground” labeling.
- Worn outlets that won’t grip a plug. Loose contacts arc and heat, and that’s where scorch marks come from.
- Aluminum branch wiring in some mid-’60s to early-’70s homes. We use approved connectors and repair methods, and if it’s widespread, we’ll talk about rewiring.
Got a 4-point report? Send it to us. We’ll fix what it flags, point out anything else we notice and give you documentation for the insurer. If the panel was flagged too, see panel upgrades in Dunedin.
The waterfront: outdoor and dock GFCIs
Near the Sound, outdoor boxes take salt and rain year-round. Typical calls: – Lanai, dock and pool-deck GFCIs that trip or won’t reset – Corroded outdoor boxes with failed covers – “Random” dead outlets inside the house that turn out to be downstream of a tripped GFCI in the garage, a bathroom or outside
We replace worn devices with weather-resistant GFCIs and in-use (bubble) covers, trace which GFCI protects which outlets and label them.
Main Street kitchens, bars and shops
Downtown businesses call us for: – Dedicated circuits for coolers, ice machines, espresso machines, ovens and brewing equipment – 240-volt receptacles matched to the plug and nameplate – Burned receptacles behind the bar, at the register or on the line – GFCI protection where code requires it in kitchens, bars and outdoor areas – More outlets for an office build-out or a new tenant
We check panel capacity first and schedule the work around your hours. See commercial electrical service and build-outs & tenant improvements.
Adding outlets and circuits at home
- Kitchen and island outlets, including USB-C, during a remodel
- Garage circuits for a freezer (on its own dedicated circuit), a workbench, golf-cart and tool chargers
- 240-volt outlets for a dryer, range, shop tools or plug-in EV charger. See EV chargers in Dunedin.
- Dedicated circuits for a mini-split, a second refrigerator or a home office
Condos
Outlet work inside your unit is usually yours, and we handle it the same way we would in a house. Some buildings require association approval or a certificate of insurance before a contractor starts, and anything that touches common wiring goes through the association. Tell us the building and we’ll handle the paperwork.
Storm and surge damage
After a summer lightning storm, dead GFCIs and USB outlets, along with whatever was plugged into them, usually mean a surge. We test the circuits, replace the damaged devices and can add panel-mounted whole-house surge protection.
When to call right away
Turn off that outlet’s breaker and call us 24/7 if it smells hot, feels hot, is discolored, keeps sparking or got wet from a leak or flood. See our Dunedin emergency electrician page. Everything else can wait for a regular-rate visit.
Permits
Replacing a device like-for-like usually doesn’t need a permit. New circuits do, and so do most new outlet locations that extend wiring. Inside city limits, permits come from the City of Dunedin Building Division, 737 Louden Ave. Unincorporated addresses and Palm Harbor go through Pinellas County. We pull the permit when one’s required.
Booking
Call or book online and tell us what’s going on. Photos help. Bundle several outlets, a ceiling fan or a fixture into one visit. You’ll get the price before we start, and we test everything before we leave.
Warranty and financing
3-year workmanship warranty, or 5 years for Member Care Plan members (plans include 7% off labor). For bigger jobs like rewiring: Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Check your options without affecting your credit score.

Dunedin outlet repair FAQ
My insurer flagged ungrounded outlets. Do I have to rewire? Not always. Often a GFCI with proper labeling satisfies the report. In other cases, we run a ground. We’ll read the report and tell you which.
My dock outlet won’t reset. Can you fix it? Yes. We’ll find out why it’s tripping, replace it with a weather-resistant GFCI and add an in-use cover.
Half my bathroom and garage outlets are dead. Why? They’re probably downstream of a tripped GFCI. We’ll find it and label which outlets it protects.
Do new outlets need a permit in Dunedin? New circuits usually do. Like-for-like replacements usually don’t.
Can you add a 240-volt outlet for our cooler? Yes, matched to the nameplate, after we check panel capacity.
Do you do small jobs? Yes. One outlet is fine, and you can bundle a few small items into the same visit.
