We’ve done this work in Pinellas Park: one renovation there came to us with rooms lit by single bare fixtures, and we left it with even recessed lighting through the hallway and living areas (see the before and after). We take the same approach in every home and shop in town. We plan the layout, confirm the box and circuit can carry the load, and install fans and fixtures that hang level and run quietly. Keywest Lights & Electric is licensed (EC#13014717) and about 5½ miles away in Seminole.

Before
AfterA Pinellas Park renovation: the space at the start of the job, then finished with new recessed lighting.
Brightening a 1970s block house
Pinellas Park’s median home was built in 1978, and the city has about 53,600 residents (Census ACS 2020–2024). Many homes still have their original lighting: a single ceiling fixture per room and a wall switch on one side. Here’s how we usually update them:
- Recessed lighting from below. Most block homes have a framed ceiling with an attic above, so we cut in LED wafers or cans with small patches. We check attic access and insulation first.
- Fans where a light used to be. An old light box usually can’t hold a fan. We replace it with a fan-rated box fastened to the framing before hanging anything that moves.
- Adding switches. We add three-way switching in hallways and dimmers in living rooms, where the wiring allows it.
- Low ceilings. We use flush-mount or “hugger” fans in rooms with 8-foot ceilings, and the right downrod and blade size in great rooms and vaulted spaces.
Lanai and pool-cage fans
Screened lanais are where Pinellas Park families spend summer evenings, and they’re tough on equipment. We install damp- or wet-rated fans and fixtures for the exposure, use weather-resistant boxes and GFCI protection where the code requires it, and mount them securely enough to handle summer gusts through the screen.
Shops, warehouses and lots
Along US-19, Park Boulevard, 49th Street and in the Gateway area, businesses call us to swap failing fluorescent fixtures for LED high-bays and shop lights, add exterior wall packs at doors and docks, and repair or upgrade parking lot lighting. We schedule around your business hours. See commercial electrical service.
Smoke and CO alarms
Many older homes in town still have battery-only alarms, or hardwired alarms past their date. We install hardwired, interconnected smoke alarms, so when one sounds they all sound, and combination smoke/CO alarms for homes with gas appliances or an attached garage. Check the date on the back: smoke alarms should generally be replaced about every 10 years.
Permits: city or county?
Replacing a fan or fixture in the same spot usually doesn’t need a permit. New circuits, and new locations that extend wiring, usually do. Addresses inside city limits go through the City of Pinellas Park Building Development division, 6051 78th Ave N. Kenneth City, Lealman and other unincorporated addresses, even with a Pinellas Park mailing address, go through Pinellas County. We pull the permit when one is required.
What to expect
Tell us what you’re installing and send a photo of the ceiling if you can. On site, we check the box, the circuit and the attic, then give you the price before we start. Bigger lighting layouts get an itemized quote. We assemble, balance and test the fan or fixture, haul away the boxes and the old fixture, and show you how the controls work. For holiday and permanent outdoor lighting, see the outdoor-circuit notes on our lighting hub and outlet repair.
Warranty and financing
Our work carries a 3-year workmanship warranty, or 5 years for Member Care Plan members. Member Plans: 7% off labor. For a larger lighting remodel: Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Check your options without affecting your credit score.

Pinellas Park fan & lighting FAQ
Can a fan go where my old light fixture is? Usually, yes, once the box is swapped for a fan-rated one fastened to the framing. We’ll check what’s up there first.
Can you add recessed lights to my block home? In most cases, yes. The ceiling is usually framed with an attic above, so lights go in from below with minimal patching.
What kind of fan should go on a screened lanai? A damp- or wet-rated fan, depending on how exposed it is, on a weather-resistant box with proper protection on the circuit.
Do you do shop and warehouse lighting? Yes: LED high-bays, shop lights, wall packs and parking lot lighting, scheduled around your hours.
Do I need a permit to add a fixture in a new spot? Usually, yes, if new wiring is run. The City of Pinellas Park or Pinellas County issues it, depending on your address, and we handle it.
Will you install a fan I bought myself? Yes. We’ll confirm it’s rated for the location and the ceiling height before we hang it.
