Keywest Lights & Electric is a SPAN Authorized Installer with 20 SPAN installs completed. We install SPAN Panels in Riverview homes — 2000s–2010s subdivisions off Boyette Road, Big Bend Road and Progressive Drive, older pockets along the Alafia River and US-301, and light-commercial suites on the US-301 corridor. Riverview is TECO territory about 30 miles from our Seminole shop, so SPAN work here is scheduled, planned panel replacement — not a same-day drop-in from Pinellas. Licensed (EC#13014717).
Call (727) 476-7079 or request a SPAN consultation. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service, 24/7 emergency calls.

What SPAN does for a Riverview home
A SPAN Panel replaces your existing electrical panel with one you can see and control from your phone. Every circuit is measured and switchable in the SPAN Home app, so you can see what’s using power right now, turn circuits off from anywhere, and get free over-the-air software updates. It uses standard 1-inch breakers and is NEMA 3R rated for indoor or outdoor installation.
In Riverview we see three kinds of SPAN projects:
- Newer homes adding an EV charger, pool heater or a second AC system. Many Riverview homes already have a 150- or 200-amp TECO service, but the panel is full and the load is creeping up. SPAN PowerUp™ can manage EV charging so the house stays within its service rating, which can sometimes avoid a utility service upgrade.^
- Homes that need a new panel anyway. If your panel is crowded with tandems, rusted along the bottom edge, or written up by an insurer or inspector, SPAN is the smarter panel upgrade in Riverview: you’re replacing the panel either way, and you get monitoring and control in the bargain.
- Homes planning solar and a battery. SPAN lets you choose which circuits get backup power during an outage, change those priorities as the outage goes on, and see how much backup time is left. SPAN says it extends battery life by 40% during an outage.*
Riverview homes and their panels
Riverview has about 113,700 residents, and the median home was built in 2006 (Census ACS 2020–2024). That makes it one of the youngest large communities we serve, and the SPAN conversation follows the housing:
- 2000s–2010s subdivisions off Boyette Road, Big Bend Road and Progressive Drive, where the original panel sits in the garage and still works but has no room left after a pool, a workshop or a Level 2 charger. These are some of the cleanest SPAN swaps we do: short runs, modern grounding, and a parking spot right beside the panel.
- Older pockets near the Alafia River and US-301 with 1980s–90s panels that are crowded, corroded or flagged on a 4-point inspection. These panels usually need replacing regardless. We assess the TECO service and grounding first, and SPAN goes in as the new panel.
- Patio homes and townhomes where the unit panel is the homeowner’s and the meter bank belongs to the association — we confirm ownership and HOA rules before we quote.
- Retail and office suites along US-301 and Big Bend that want circuit-level visibility and remote shutoff for a tenant build-out. See commercial electrical service.
Larger homes with more than 48 circuits or a service over 200 amps may need more than one SPAN Panel. We size it at the site visit.
SPAN with solar and battery backup
SPAN works with a home’s existing solar and battery system when the battery is on SPAN’s compatibility list. Tesla Powerwall 3 and FranklinWH aPower work with every SPAN Panel model. Powerwall 2, SolarEdge, and Enphase IQ Battery 5P and 10T work with the SPAN Panel MAIN 32. SPAN’s Backup Overload Protection (NEC 2023 Article 702.4) helps prevent brownouts and the service calls that come with battery resets. We confirm your inverter, battery and gateway before we quote.
Don’t have solar or a battery yet? We can add solar, battery backup and energy monitoring through our licensed partner installers as one coordinated project. Our partners install the solar and battery equipment; Keywest Lights & Electric manages the project and handles the electrical work, including the SPAN Panel and interconnection wiring. SPAN with a standby generator
Some Riverview homeowners added a standby generator after recent hurricane seasons. SPAN can work with one, but you should know the limits before you buy:
- The generator connects upstream of SPAN through a listed transfer switch. Generator output never lands in the SPAN Panel, and portable-generator interlocks can’t be installed in it.
- SPAN doesn’t communicate with the generator, so generator power shows as grid power in the app.
- Generator only, no battery: there’s no automatic load shedding. You turn non-essential circuits off by hand in the app, which is still far easier than flipping breakers in a dark garage.
- Generator as part of a compatible battery system: you get SPAN’s full battery outage experience.
Storm season and outages
Storms that push the Alafia River and knock out power across southern Hillsborough County leave Riverview homes with multi-day outages more often than most new owners expect. Owners with batteries learn quickly that a battery wired only to the AC can be empty by morning. With SPAN, you see estimated backup time and decide what stays on, so the fridge, lights and Wi-Fi are still running when you need them.
Permits and TECO in Riverview
Riverview is unincorporated, so electrical permits come from Hillsborough County Development Services through the county’s HillsGovHub portal. There is no Riverview city building department. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.
Utility: TECO (Tampa Electric). When the meter can has to be pulled or service equipment changes, we coordinate the disconnect and reconnect with TECO. Meter sockets and service standards follow Tampa Electric’s process — different from the Duke Energy work we do on the Pinellas side.
If a load calculation shows the existing service is short even with SPAN PowerUp, a Riverview service upgrade goes on its own line of the quote.
Distance and how we schedule Riverview SPAN work
Our shop is at 6248 Seminole Blvd, Seminole, FL 33772, about 30 miles from central Riverview. That puts Riverview in Tier 3: planned, high-ticket work only. We schedule the consultation, site visit and install day; we do not promise a response time from Pinellas, and we do not advertise all-hours office coverage for SPAN appointments. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service available; emergency calls are answered 24/7 on their own track via our emergency electrician service.
How a SPAN install works
- Consultation call. Tell us about your home, panel, solar, battery, EV plans and any HOA rules.
- Site visit and load calculation. We look at the panel, meter, grounding, and any solar, battery or generator equipment.
- Itemized quote after the site visit. Every part of the job is on its own line. We don’t quote SPAN prices over the phone.
- Hillsborough County permit and TECO coordination when needed.
- Install and commissioning. Most SPAN installs take about a day. We commission the panel, connect it to your existing system, and add whole-house surge protection.
- Inspection and app walkthrough. We meet the inspector and show you how backup priorities work in the SPAN Home app.
Warranty and financing
- 3-year workmanship warranty on our electrical work, extended to 5 years for Member Care Plan members. That’s separate from SPAN’s own 10-year limited panel warranty, which requires installation by SPAN or a SPAN Authorized Installer.
- Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. Check your options without affecting your credit score. Ask us and we’ll include the financing link with your itemized quote.
- Hours: office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service, and 24/7 emergency calls.

Riverview SPAN FAQ
Are you a SPAN Authorized Installer? Yes. Keywest Lights & Electric is a SPAN Authorized Installer, with 20 SPAN installs completed. We’re licensed (EC#13014717) and have done electrical work in the Tampa Bay area since 2010.
How much does a SPAN Panel cost in Riverview? It depends on the SPAN model, your current panel and TECO service, any code corrections, the Hillsborough County permit, and add-ons. We give an itemized quote after a site visit so you see every line before you decide.
My Riverview home is only 15 years old. Is SPAN worth it? Often, if you’re adding an EV, a pool heater or a battery. A newer panel isn’t unsafe, but it usually has no room and no load management. SPAN replaces it with circuit-level monitoring and control. We’ll tell you honestly after the site visit if a standard panel or a load-managed charger makes more sense.
Can SPAN help me add an EV charger without a service upgrade? Sometimes. SPAN PowerUp can manage EV charging to keep your home within its service rating. It requires qualification and enrollment, and we’ll tell you after the load calculation whether it fits your home.^ See also EV chargers in Riverview.
Is Riverview on TECO or Duke Energy? TECO (Tampa Electric). SPAN installs here follow TECO disconnect/reconnect rules when the meter has to move.
Is this the same as the Brandon SPAN page? No. Brandon has its own SPAN page for Brandon addresses north of the Alafia. This page is specifically for Riverview addresses. See also SPAN in Brandon.
