EV Charger Installation in Carrollwood, FL

Carrollwood was built in layers. Original Carrollwood went up beside Lake Carroll starting in 1959, when developer Matt Jetton laid out the subdivision that was named U.S. Subdivision of the Year in 1961. Carrollwood Village welcomed its first families in 1972, with more phases from 1978 on, and newer townhomes and infill followed. Each layer has a different electrical starting point for an EV charger. We’re about 23 miles from Carrollwood in Seminole, so we book these installs as planned, scheduled visits. Licensed electrical contractor EC13014717, 6248 Seminole Blvd, Seminole FL 33772.

Match your home to its era

Carrollwood Village (1970s and ’80s, golf-course and lake streets)150- to 200-amp service, attached garages, panels on an outside wallUsually a direct 40- or 50-amp circuit, sometimes with load management
1990s and newer homes and townhomes200-amp service, panel in or beside the garageUsually simple. Townhomes need association approval for exterior work.

The median Carrollwood home was built in 1984 (Census ACS 2020–2024), and the community has about 36,700 residents.

When the panel is the real project

Older Carrollwood homes often need panel work before charging is practical: – A Carrollwood panel upgrade replaces an outdated or full panel. – A Carrollwood service upgrade raises the amperage coming into the house when the load calculation shows the service is maxed out. – A SPAN smart panel in Carrollwood can manage the charger around the AC, pool pump and kitchen loads, sometimes avoiding a service upgrade. We’re a SPAN Authorized Installer. Nearby homeowners can read about SPAN in Town ‘n’ Country.

Each of these is quoted as its own line item.

Carports and converted garages

Many 1960s homes in the original subdivision have a carport, or a garage that became a family room decades ago. Charging can still work. We mount an outdoor-rated charger on the carport wall or beside the driveway, protect the cable run, and provide the GFCI protection the code requires. Deed restrictions or a neighborhood association may have a say over anything visible from the street, so check first.

Permit and Tampa Electric

Carrollwood is unincorporated Hillsborough County, so the EV circuit permit is filed through HillsGovHub, the county’s online permitting portal, not the City of Tampa. We file it and handle the inspection.

Power comes from Tampa Electric (TECO): – Energy Planner is a time-of-use program with a control device and online scheduling, so the charger can run when prices are lowest. – Prime Time Plus offers a monthly bill credit for hardwired Level 2 chargers in exchange for brief pauses during occasional peak events.

Confirm current terms at tampaelectric.com. We’ll set up the charger for whichever you choose.

Driving from Carrollwood

Dale Mabry Highway runs south toward Westshore, the stadium area and South Tampa, and the Veterans Expressway connects to the airport and north toward the Suncoast Parkway. For most commuters, a 32-amp charger on a 40-amp circuit refills a day’s driving overnight. The circuit is sized at 125% of the charger rating because EV charging is a continuous load.

A planned visit, not a quick call

We schedule Carrollwood work in advance: 1. Send photos of the panel label, meter, garage or carport. 2. We visit for the load calculation and route. 3. You get an itemized quote after the site visit. 4. We file on HillsGovHub and book the install day.

Our emergency electrician service covers Pinellas homes close to our Seminole shop, not Hillsborough. For urgent electrical problems in Carrollwood, please call a local electrician.

  • Financing available through Acorn Finance, subject to credit approval. You can check your options without affecting your credit score.

Carrollwood EV charger FAQ

My house is in original Carrollwood, built in the 1960s. Can it support a charger? Often, yes, but plan for a load calculation and possibly panel or service work first. We’ll show you the numbers.

I don’t have a garage, just a carport. Is that OK? Yes. We use outdoor-rated equipment and protected wiring. Check any deed restrictions for exterior changes.

Does the City of Tampa issue my permit? No. Carrollwood is unincorporated Hillsborough County, so the permit goes through HillsGovHub.

Will TECO’s programs work with my charger? Energy Planner works with schedule-capable chargers, and Prime Time Plus requires a hardwired Level 2 charger. Check TECO’s current terms.

What will it cost? It depends on your home’s era, panel, parking setup and permit. You’ll get an itemized quote after a site visit.
