Wesley Chapel has roughly 76,000 residents, and most of them live in homes built in the last 25 years, which makes it new by Tampa Bay standards. That doesn’t mean the service is big enough. Two EVs, a pool heater, a second AC zone and a standby generator can push a 200-amp house past its limit, and the bigger homes around Wiregrass Ranch and Saddlebrook sometimes need 320- or 400-amp class service from the start of a remodel. Keywest Lights & Electric (EC#13014717) plans Wesley Chapel upgrades from our Seminole shop, about 38 miles away, as scheduled projects with the Pasco County permit and utility coordination handled.

Newer houses, bigger appetites
The median Wesley Chapel home was built in 2006 (Census ACS 2020–2024). Builders here mostly delivered 200-amp underground services, which covers the house as it was sold. The loads that get added afterward are what change the math:
- a pair of Level 2 chargers for commutes down I-75, I-275 or Bruce B. Downs
- pool and spa heaters, plus screened-lanai kitchens
- a second AC system, a garage mini-split or a larger heat pump
- a whole-home standby generator or battery system that needs the service sized correctly
- large homes in Wiregrass Ranch, Seven Oaks, Epperson and around Saddlebrook with long circuit lists from day one
There’s also a smaller group of older homes and acreage east of I-75 and along the rural roads, some from the 1980s and ’90s, still on 100 or 150 amps with an overhead drop and a tired mast.
First question: which utility serves you?
This is where Wesley Chapel differs from almost everywhere else we work. Depending on the street, your power comes from the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative (WREC), Duke Energy Florida or Tampa Electric (TECO); Pasco County’s own electric service area map shows all three in the area. Each has its own meter specifications and its own process for disconnects and reconnects. WREC is a member-owned co-op with a New Tampa/Wesley Chapel office; Duke and TECO handle service changes through their contractor channels. Look at your bill, and we’ll coordinate with whichever one it is.
Permit: Pasco County, through PascoGateway
Wesley Chapel is unincorporated, so service changes are electrical trade permits from Pasco County Building Construction Services, filed on the county’s PascoGateway portal. Pasco’s residential electrical checklist calls for load calculations and a riser diagram for anything beyond an equal change-out, and it lists design flood elevation among the plan details. We prepare all of it.
HOAs and CDDs
Much of Wesley Chapel is governed by HOAs and community development districts. A meter and panel change rarely alters how the house looks, but some associations review exterior equipment. We send specs and a photo of the planned location when asked.
Panel, load management or a bigger service
- Replace the panel only when amperage is adequate. See panel upgrades in Wesley Chapel.
- Manage the load with a load-managed EV charger or a SPAN smart panel in Wesley Chapel using SPAN PowerUp™, which can pause or slow big loads to stay inside the current rating and can sometimes avoid a utility service upgrade.^
- Upgrade the service: meter socket or meter/main to your utility’s spec, service-entrance conductors, main disconnect, grounding and bonding, new panel (Good ABB or Best Siemens), and whole-house surge protection, required under Florida’s adopted electrical code when dwelling service equipment is replaced (surge protection).
Planning a generator? We lay out the transfer switch while the service is being redesigned. See generator installation and hookups. For a charger, see EV chargers in Wesley Chapel.
Commercial along SR 56 and SR 54
Retail, medical and office suites along SR 56 and SR 54 change tenants often, and new equipment can outgrow the existing service. We assess the gear, coordinate with your engineer or GC, and pull the county permit. See commercial electrical service.
Why we only take planned work here
Wesley Chapel is about 38 miles from 6248 Seminole Blvd. That’s a long way for a small repair, so we take service upgrades, panel replacements, SPAN and EV projects here, on scheduled dates, and we don’t promise a response time or offer emergency service in Pasco County.
How it goes
- Site visit: meter, panel, service lateral or drop, grounding, HOA notes and future plans.
- Load calculation and an itemized quote after the site visit.
- PascoGateway permit and utility coordination with WREC, Duke or TECO.
- Install day, with power off for part of the day.
- County inspection, utility reconnect, labeled circuit directory.

Wesley Chapel service upgrade FAQ
How much does a service upgrade cost in Wesley Chapel? It depends on the service size, your utility’s requirements, the meter location, the panel and the permit. We give you an itemized quote after a site visit.
My house is only 15 years old. Why would it need an upgrade? Because the loads changed. Two EVs, a pool heater and a generator weren’t in the builder’s load calculation. Sometimes load management solves it; sometimes the service has to grow.
Do you work with WREC? Yes. We coordinate with WREC, Duke or TECO, whichever serves your address.
Who issues the permit? Pasco County Building Construction Services, through PascoGateway.
Do you also work in Land O’ Lakes? Yes. See service upgrades in Land O’ Lakes. We also cover East Lake and Tampa.
