Electrical Panel Upgrades in Bardmoor, FL

Bardmoor is about 3 miles from our shop, so a site visit is easy to fit into the schedule. Most homes off Bryan Dairy, Starkey and Park Boulevard, including the golf-course streets and the gated Bayou Club, date from the mid-’70s on. Their original panels are now 40 to 50 years old. Bardmoor is unincorporated, so we pull the Pinellas County permit, handle Duke Energy and give you an itemized quote after we’ve opened the cover. Licensed EC#13014717.

Call (727) 476-7079 or request a panel visit. Office 7 AM–5 PM, weekend service, 24/7 emergency calls.

Start with the 4-point report

Many Bardmoor calls come after an insurance 4-point inspection. Read what the report actually says before you accept a quote to replace everything. Sometimes a full panel replacement is the answer. Other times the report flagged a corroded exterior panel, open breaker spaces and a few outlets. On one home in nearby Largo, we fixed what the report flagged in a single day instead of replacing every panel in the house. Read the 4-point case study → Send us your Bardmoor report and we’ll tell you what it really requires.

Breaker or whole panel?

If the panel is a sound, current brand with clean bus bars and spare room, we can often replace just a worn breaker or add the AFCI/GFCI protection the home needs. We recommend a full replacement when: – It’s Federal Pacific Stab-Lok or Zinsco, where new breakers don’t fix the underlying risk. More on FPE & Zinsco → – The bus bars are burned, pitted or corroded – Replacement breakers are obsolete or hard to find – There’s no room for the circuits you need

We’ll show you photos of what we find and let you decide.

What 1970s Bardmoor homes have added since

About 10,300 people live in Bardmoor, and the median home was built in 1976 (Census ACS 2020–2024). Over the decades, most of these houses picked up a pool, a room addition, a second AC and a kitchen remodel, all on the original panel. The result is often doubled-up breakers, faded labels and an exterior panel or meter can worn by humidity and sideways rain. If you’re planning an EV charger, pool heater, generator hookup or bigger AC, now is the time to make room.

Warning signs: breakers that trip often, feel warm or buzz; lights that dim when the AC starts; rust, water stains or a cover that won’t close. A burning or hot-plastic smell isn’t something to schedule for later. Turn off the main if it’s safe and call. We take emergency calls 24/7.

Villas, townhomes and the Bayou Club

Inside a villa or townhome, the panel is usually yours to replace, but exterior equipment, meter banks and anything shared may belong to the association or need its approval. In gated communities, we also coordinate gate access and work hours. We’ll give your board the details it usually asks for.

More capacity, or smarter control?

A new panel doesn’t add capacity by itself. For big new loads, we run a load calculation. Sometimes a new panel on the existing service is enough. Sometimes you also need a service upgrade, with a larger meter base and service conductors coordinated with Duke Energy. Each item gets its own line on the quote.

A SPAN smart panel replaces your panel and lets you monitor and control each circuit from your phone. With SPAN PowerUp™, it can manage EV charging to keep the home within its service rating, which can sometimes avoid a utility service upgrade.^ We’re a SPAN Authorized Installer with 20 SPAN installs. Solar and batteries are installed by licensed partner installers, while we handle the electrical work and manage the project.

Permit: usually Pinellas County

Bardmoor permits come from Pinellas County Building & Development Review Services (440 Court St., Clearwater) through the county’s Access Portal, even when your mail says Seminole or Largo. Some nearby streets are actually inside the City of Seminole or City of Largo, so we confirm the right office before filing. Duke Energy Florida handles the disconnect and reconnect, and we schedule it. Panel replacements always need a permit.

The job

  1. Site visit: we check the panel, meter, grounding and bonding, and talk about what you plan to add
  2. Itemized quote, never a phone price
  3. Permit and Duke coordination
  4. One-day install for most homes, with power off for part of the day and every circuit labeled

Bardmoor panel upgrade FAQ

My 4-point inspection flagged my panel. Do I need a whole new one? Not always. Send us the report and we’ll tell you what it actually requires.

I have a Seminole mailing address. Who issues my permit? Usually Pinellas County, since Bardmoor is unincorporated. Some nearby streets are in Seminole or Largo, so we check first.

How long will the power be off? Most home panel swaps are done in one day, with power off for part of it.

Can you just replace one bad breaker? Yes, if the panel is a sound, current brand. Not if it’s Federal Pacific or Zinsco.

How much does it cost? It depends on the panel, the service, the meter base, grounding and any corrections. You get an itemized quote after the visit.

Can you work in a gated community? Yes. We coordinate access and follow the community’s rules.
