Seminole is our home town: the shop sits at 6248 Seminole Blvd, so a generator visit near Lake Seminole or Bardmoor is minutes away.

Seminole homes and backup power

Seminole’s 19,396 residents (ACS 2020–2024) live on just over five square miles. Homes here have a median year built of 1979 or earlier; 28.2% went up in the 1970s and manufactured units make up 13.0% (DP04). When the grid drops, an all-electric house loses its heat pump, water heater and range unless a generator is properly connected.

The panel question

Each interlock is built for one panel model, so main and generator breakers can never both be on. Original 1970s boxes around Lake Seminole may have no kit made for them. In that case a small selector switch can sit next to it, or a new panel goes in with the plate built for it; replacing a tired panel and adding the hookup together saves a second permit.

We never use a dryer-outlet cord hookup; it can energize the pole. More on our interlock and transfer switch page.

What Seminole owners keep running

The refrigerator and freezer, a few lights, ceiling fans, phone and internet equipment, the garage door, and any medical equipment someone in the home relies on. Adding the water heater or heat pump is what moves an all-electric house from a portable unit toward standby. We size to your list, not the biggest generator on the shelf. Want permanent eave lights on the same visit? See our Seminole JellyFish page.

Step by step

1) We walk the house and list loads. 2) We check the panel, grounding and the inlet-to-panel route. 3) You approve a written, itemized quote and we pull the permit. 4) We mount the inlet, install the interlock or switch, label circuits and test with a generator. 5) After inspection, we show the switchover and tape instructions inside the panel door. Set it well clear of the house while it runs.

Standby units

For standby, the questions are fuel (natural gas where available, otherwise propane), pad location and switch type. Clearances follow the manufacturer and code, and in a flood zone we check how high the equipment must sit. A licensed gas contractor runs the gas or propane line; we do the electrical. The cost depends on the inlet-to-panel distance, whether the panel takes a listed kit, the inlet and cord rating, and any pad and gas work. Starting with an inlet and interlock and adding standby later works; we plan step one so step two fits.

Add surge protection

Voltage can swing when power returns. Since we’re already in the panel, it’s an efficient moment to add whole-house surge protection.

Seminole generator FAQ

Do you service hookups you didn’t install? The electrical side, yes: inlet, interlock or switch, and wiring.

How long will a portable run my fridge? That depends on generator size and tank; we estimate it for the circuits you pick.

Woman-owned, license EC13014717: labor is warranted 2 years, or 5 with Member Care. We pull the permit; confirm local rules with your city or county.
