Redington Shores packs a whole town into about 220 acres and just over a mile of Gulf Boulevard. It was incorporated in 1955, and the 1970s left a strong mark on its buildings. Census data shows 48.8% of the people who live here are 65 or older, and 47.9% of homes are vacant in the Census count, seasonal homes included. We’re about 3 miles away.

Those two facts shape how we approach backup power in town.
Full-time residents
For year-round owners, the goal is comfort and health after a storm: refrigeration, a bedroom air conditioner, medical devices, a phone charger. A standby generator with an automatic transfer switch handles that without anyone wrestling a fuel can on a stair landing. If a portable unit fits your needs better, an interlock and exterior inlet gets you there.
Seasonal owners
If you’re up north when an outage hits, nobody is there to start a portable. An automatic standby system can keep a dehumidifier or AC running to hold off mold in a closed-up house. Leave a neighbor or property manager a labeled panel and simple instructions, too.
Elevated and rebuilt homes
The town has alerted contractors that elevated homes may need permanent stairs and a 3-by-5-foot landing at the meter, plus safe access to emergency disconnects. Generator and transfer-switch locations have to fit around those requirements and the coastal construction code that applies to the Gulf beaches. We sort that out at the design stage.
