Why a home standby unit
A home standby generator is installed once and then left alone. It exercises itself on a schedule, watches the utility feed, and takes over through a transfer switch when the feed drops. You don’t refuel cans or run cords through a window.
Fitting it to a 1980s house
Panels from that decade may have spare spaces, or may be full of tandem breakers. Some may be worth replacing anyway. We look at yours, figure the load you want to keep running, and propose a unit and switch to match.

The county permits this work; during hurricane rebuilding, electrical spending gets tallied on the county’s damage form, and we help fill it in.
